While Arrow has succeeded in redeeming itself with fans in its fifth season, the show had a pretty big hurdle to jump after some missteps in its third and fourth seasons. From lacklustre flashbacks to the "Olicity" relationship, the Green Arrow adaptation stumbled quite a bit before its course correction.
Despite having made some questionable character decisions in the past, Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly that there are some very distinct boundaries he has set for himself when it comes to the show. “There’s two lines in the sand that I’ve drawn for Arrow for myself,” he explained. “I can’t speak for Greg [Berlanti] or for Wendy [Mericle], but for as long as I’m involved with the show, the two things I never want to do is kill off Thea [Willa Holland] and put Felicity in a mask and a costume. Those, to me, are two lines that I just think are a bridge too far. Thea, because we’ve taken so many family members away from Oliver, and Felicity because when you put a character like that in a costume, I think it diminishes who that character is and it makes the idea of superheroics seem silly.”
Of course, Felicity did appear in her own superhero costume on this week's Legends of Tomorrow, but it looks like that's the closest she'll ever get to fighting crime in the field with the rest of Team Arrow. What do you think of Guggenheim's decisions? Let us know in the comments!
