BATWOMAN: First Official Look At Javicia Leslie In Her Redesigned Bat-Suit Revealed

We've seen a few photos from the set of Batwoman season 2, but The CW has now unveiled our first official look at Javicia Leslie as Gotham's new Scarlet Knight, Ryan Wilder, in her redesigned costume...

We've seen new Batwoman Javicia Leslie in-costume on the Vancouver set of the CW series already via some blurry spy pics, but we now have a first official look at Ryan Wilder in the redesigned Bat-suit she'll unveil during season 2 of the show.

The costume doesn't appear to be a million miles away from the suit Leslie's predecessor Ruby Rose wore in season 1, but there are certainly a few subtle differences. Wilder will initially don Rose's original outfit before sporting this new version in the third episode.

Check out the images below and let us know what you think.

Here's what showrunner Caroline Dries had to say about the upgraded suit:

“Ryan’s journey starts from a place of ‘What can this Batsuit do for me?’ But it’s not long before she realizes the power of its symbol and what it can do for everyone else in Gotham City. As Ryan embraces everything that makes her special, she adjusts the suit to fit her physically and figuratively. This meant creating a new body design and new cowl that was undeniably a statement that screamed ‘powerful.’

Maya Mani sent me her drawings and I loved it. The wig was something we never perfected in season one, and Janice Workman crushed it with this new take. Javicia and I saw various prototypes of styles and red ombres, and at one point we were trading our own iPad-doodled versions. Janice translated that into what we are looking at now. When I see it, I smile. It makes me feel inspired

“I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman — it’s her style, her swag, and her moment," added Leslie. "It was an honor to be able to collaborate with Caroline and Maya. I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”

Batwoman returns for its second season early next year.

100x better with the kinky hair than the red wig.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - im hoping its actually her hair there. I never understood the mentality of having fake hair on top. No one's gonna look at that red hair and assume thats her actual hair and it just looks like it gets in the way more than anything. And the explanation of her making it clear shes a woman is just stupid for continuing batman's legacy. His goal is instilling fear in criminals, not hope in people.

Looks good, their take on the Batwoman suit has always delivered and the changes in this one are few like the gauntlets and the new bat belt.

The new curly wig with red streaks works for the new actress.

Leaving the first previous look of Kate's to compare the differences.

You just summed up 80% of this show's creative decisions.

Kinda wish they had brought in a comic character to take on the mantle. Maybe a Renee Montoya.

@InfinitePunches - Renee Montoya would have been great, also could have just done Barbara gordon

@dracula - Well they probably want to keep the LGBT element and certain "fans" would have been mad if they made Barbara gay.

@dracula - Dude's too skinny, lol. He was great for a young Bruce, but he'd have to have some major padding or major workout schedule.

Great actor tho, he'd be a good Johnny Storm.

@KWilly - Well like I said 5 to 10 years, plenty of time to bulk up, although I doubt that will happen, shows really don't get movies anymore.

Yeah could see him as Human Torch, would love a Spiderman/Human Torch/Iceman team up movie in the mcu

@dracula - IDK. It would be a great callback, but he'd be the shortest take on the character. Get him some 5" lifts to go with that workout routine.

@inkniron - he is the same height as Michael Keaton
