Ruby Rose will not be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year. The
Batwoman actress took to social media to share the "devastating news" that she will not be able to make it to the convention and to apologize to fans for the last minute cancellation.
"I will, unfortunately, not be able to make it to Comic-Con this year, and it is devastating," Rose said in a video posted to Instagram.
"I have wanted to go to Comic-Con for a million years, and never did I think I would be invited as a guest and to be speaking on incredible panels."
"But I'm not going to be there, which stinks a lot. But just know that we tried everything that we could humanly to be there," she added.
"It wasn't until really now that we realized there really wasn't any other way to finish this episode, this ambitious episode that we're doing, and create this amazing show that's really special."
“We want you to love it and be proud of it, and be entertained and to laugh and to cry and to be empowered,” she continued.
“And that means that in this particular instance, I got to work and bring Kate Kane, Batwoman to the screen.”
The Australian actress ended the video by thanking her fans and promising to "make it up to" them.
Ruby Rose was scheduled to appear on the
Batwoman panel on Saturday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m. The panel will include a screening of the pilot, followed by a Q&A session with the cast and executive producers of the show. Rose was also scheduled to appear in the "Entertainment Weekly: Women Who Kick Ass" panel on Saturday.
Given that Kate Kane/Batwoman is the first LGBTQ superhero to headline a TV series, it would've been great to hear more from the actress responsible for bringing her to life on screen - but fans probably appreciate Rose and the rest of the cast and crew putting in the work to ensure the show is as polished as possible before its premiere on October 6 on The CW.
Rose is the latest big name to pull out of San Diego Comic-Con.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also
had a last-minute cancellation on their panel, but were far less open about the reason why they would be unable to attend.
