GOTHAM: Fox Announces Season Five Will Premiere January 2019; Orders Two More Episodes

Gotham has been around quite awhile now. However, it's starting to come to an end, with a season 5 finale on the horizon. Turns out, Fox has given the show and its fans a bit of a surprise.

For a while, it's been up in the air on when Gotham would actually ever come back. Some rumors were saying it would drop around March of next year. Now, Fox has officially said that it will premiere on January 3rd, 2019. That's a huge relief for Gotham fans, as they originally thought they were going to have a much longer wait. But that's not all.

It was also reported that Gotham season five was going to have a 10 episode run, which
would fall short of having 100 episodes in total. Looks like Fox is being generous, since they have added two more to the order, adding up to 12 episodes for season five.

Gotham left off season four on a cliffhanger. The city was in complete ruins, where all the villains and criminals were marking their territory all over the place. Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne, and a couple others stayed behind to protect their city, and season five will display how that's been working out for them. Another thing to expect in season five is the arrival of Bane, who will be played by Shane West. Last but not least, Gotham will show a young Bruce Wayne making his final transformations into the one and only Batman. Other characters around him should also be reaching a recognizable form.

Overall, this will be a
jam-packed season. No room for any filler. Just the last chapter to the rise of the Dark Knight.

Oh that’s awesome. I thought it wasn’t airing until summer like AoS. Not too long at all then. 😀

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you're talking about the premiere episode of the final season but in the title you say series finale.

No room for any filler

Not with 90s Secretary Bane's shoulder pads there aren't.

@Doomsday8888 - nah, I was fine with 10, so 12 sounds like just enough to smoothly tell a concise and precise story. The whole 21 or 24 episode season structure can drag on and lose momentum with filler D grade plot threads and loses focus pretty regularly. The Marvel Netflix structure of 10 to 13 episodes seems like the perfect size for a cohesive story to be told properly. I'm actually happy it has adapted this format for the final season. Its gonna be a delicious 1, 2 punch to cap off this series.

@Doomsday8888 - Yeah, every season has had 22 episodes while this one is 10 short compared to the rest. I'm sure there were a few more (possibly great) things that could have been squeezed in if they had the full 22 episode order. However, I'm just glad this show is getting a proper ending, and not being cancelled outright on a cliffhanger.

@Doomsday8888 - yeah, Gotham is my favorite show and Batman is my favorite comic character, but ive always said they should end the show at 5 seasons, but I always thought it would be a full 5 seasons

This show was pure guilty pleasure. Sometimes Nolan"ish", sometimes Burton"ish", and sometimes pure foolishness, but overall I enjoyed the run. If DC could get the movie verse together, they could utilize things like this in the future for a Crisis world that has already been built. Think of the replay value alone. My two cents...

How they gon fit in 2 more episodes if they are made the 10 story arc lol

@eddieLuckycbm - Well im pretty sure David Mazouz said they were doing 22 episodes worth of story in 10 episodes, so there wouldn't be as many quiet moments, so they could add more moments like that and slow it down a little, giving the characters some down time, although who knowa, the finale is going to have a 10 year time jump. Maybe a 2 hour finale

@eddieLuckycbm - Could the added final two episodes be a set-up for a spinoff? Just wondering.
