GOTHAM Producer Says We Should Expect To See An "Older" Harvey Dent And More

Bruno Heller has already revealed that Gotham will feature Hugo Strange and an early version of Arkham Asylum (you can find those quotes again here if you missed them), but it has now been revealed that a slightly older version Harvey Dent and perhaps Mr. Freeze will be joining him...

Depending on which of the many DC Comics continuity's you decide to follow, Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent should be roughly the same age. However, we won't be seeing them as classmates in this series, as Gotham will take things in a slightly different direction by portraying him as a peer of Ben McKenzie's Detective Jim Gordon. "We're playing Harvey Dent slightly older. He's more Gordon's age in this telling. One of the things to avoid in order not to tell a high school story -- which would be great, but it''s a different show on a different network at a different time that I would not be a part of. But he will go back to school and villains will be part of that world." This is far from the end of the world as it doesn't really impact the Caped Crusader working alongside Gordon and Dent in the future before the latter becomes Two-Face. In fact, it should be pretty interesting to see more of the future villain as Gotham City's District Attorney.

Another major character from the comic books who will be making his presence felt in Gotham is Hugo Strange, and he has been confirmed as making an appearance in season one. "Hugo Strange is going to pop up because we're going to start dealing with how Arkham was created and why Arkham was created in the way that it was so, yeah, absolutely. It's a Season One thing because in our telling of it the way Arkham was created and the why and how is one of the causes of the particular criminal climate in Gotham that allowed Batman to happen. The revolving door of Arkham is both a brilliant narrative device because it allows you to -- you don't have to kill people off, you can just put them in cold storage -- but if you're telling the story from the start you kind of have to explain, 'What the f--k? Why don't you make that place a place people don't escape from?' We're going to explain why it is the way it is and Hugo Strange is a big part of that."

Executive producer and pilot director Danny Cannon (Judge Dredd)  also told IGN that we'll learn more about both Poison Ivy and possibly even how Mr. Freeze decided to become involved in cryogenics. As for supporting characters like Dr. Leslie Thompkins, Cannon revealed that both he and Heller are relying on Geoff Johns and the team at DC Comics to help them introduce people like that. "Let's hope we get a couple more seasons and all those people will work their way into it," he teased. What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

lol... It just amuses me how this dude wants to defend what his doing with Gotham no matter what. He knows its a stupid idea to try and sell a batman show sans batman so he's just trying to justify every single thing they're doing.

This is your average cop drama with characters named after those in the Batman mythos. That's it.

I don't get why everybody gets their anal beads in a knot about this. So what they chamge a bit of the characters? Its not like it affects the other shows or the comics.

The plot of this show gets more and more complicated with every bit of details we get on it.

Hopefully it will be good. I'd hope for "Breaking Bad" kind of good, maybe even a "Wilfred" kind of good, but I'll settle for decent. Please...please...don't let this show be lame.

If this was the CW...Gordon and Dent would have history together. In college... They experimented with each other, fueled by their curiosity. This would make things awkward for them in the initial phase of their working relationship, but eventually they get over it... And possibly back together.

I should write for the CW....

I would be irritated if I didn't realize it's on Fox, and will probably be cancelled 6 episodes in because no Batman = No rating. At least I hope Batfans are smarter than Smallville fans.

You guys are being little b*tches about this show.. Calm your nerdy sh*t down.. I'm a huge batman fan and I can over look things like Harvey being older just because I want to experience a new take on batman. Tired of reading so many complaints, it's like a bunch of little kids..

No no no no noooooo..... now i know for sure i won't be watching this rubbish. They jus wanna introfuce versions of Batman villains without Batman himself. So basically by the time an adult Batman shows up, he'll be battling a bumch of pensioners. This stinks!!!

The Dark Knight Trilogy was so off on a lot of things compared to the comics and it has become one of the greatest trilogies of all time. Lets just all calm down for a minute and give these things a chance. Because, if I remember correctly, Ras Al Guhl has been alive for 500 years, the Joker doesnt wear make-up, and Bane doesnt talk like hes poorly impersonating Darth Vader.

You know, I'm trying to channel this show out as much as possible, because it just seems like more trouble than it's worth to try to get excited for it. I'm just going to appreciate what few scraps the show has for live-action Batman fans that have never been in a movie or T.V. show before, such as Harvey Dent, Renee Montoya, Crispus Allen...

... and now, Hugo Strange.

Wooo! Who cares if Harvey Dent is in his twenties when Bruce is in his tweens-- we're getting HUGO STRANGE!

Was Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy? or was it just a very young Bruce Wayne and Villains that are ~ 20 or more years older than him? What good are Batman's villains without Batman?

And, The Dark Knight Trilogy did take a lot of important aspects from the comics

If you like this, watch it, unless the reviews are amazing, I definitely won't be tuning in

Wow. A show about Batman without Batman that's loaded with a bunch of villains that Batman arguably created. This exists and yet people are actually shitting all over FOX's Fantastic Four reboot??!?!?!??


Look, don't get me wrong, I'll watch this because I'm about as big of a Batman/DCU fan as you're ever going to find.

But when it comes to films/series that I'm really not excited for or interested in, THIS show is at the top of the list.

Playing God with Batman's... well... ANYTHING is a pointless practice.

I dont know why there is so much hate about the age differences in the young Bruce (the kid is 13) and his villains in waiting. The girl playing Selina is barely 15, the girl playing Ivy is 9 or 10. The Penguin and Riddler I always saw as a little older, but neither is absurdly older than Bruce. Both actors are in their 20's, which doesn't mean a whole lot. There are plenty of near 30 yr olds that play teenagers on tv all of the time. According to my girl, that's half thecast of Glee. Can someone help me out with this gripe?

I'm actually looking more forward to this show now. Kinda funny how Gotham stole Sinister Six's thunder and became the 1st show to feature villians and yes, Jim gordon. Cobblepot better be ruthless.

I meant first entertainment to focus more on the villians, as Sin Six is obviously gonna be a movie. Still stealing a bit of the "how will this be?" from that upcoming film.

It's been said over and over again. It's just not that interesting. Who wants to watch a show about a Gotham with no Batman that focuses on Jim Gordon and Bruce as a kid. This isn't Spider-Man it's Batman, I don't want to watch 6 plus seasons of Bruce Wayne as a teenager going through puberty. I also don't want to watch the GCPD repetitively fail against Batman's villains, and if they ever succeed it would mean that Batman isn't needed. It's just a very stupid concept for a show in my opinion. Plus, none of the villains are intimidating

If you like it, that's great, watch it, but I won't be tuning in unless the reviews are [frick]ing amazing

They should have set this during "Year One", yet still had it focus on Gordon in order to save money and keep Batman-led stories special occasions on film. For the first season, the Batman is only a rumor to the police department, barely glimpsed. For the second season, Gordon has to learn if he can trust and work with this vigilante, and so on.

DC really should've gotten the ball rolling on their cinematic universe. Everything would've been a lot easier and more worthful if they established this show as the prequel to Ben Affleck's Batman. A cameo by an aged-up Ben McKenzie in Batman v Superman would've been really cool (and bring views to the show). Hell, if this show just focused on Gordon it would've been fine but now we're all anticipating the other villains and they're kind of getting screwed over.

Think about it, DC can EASILY beat Marvel's cinematic universe with how much they're going to be dominating television. Arrow and Flash is already a success, Constantine looks great and wants to introduce Deadman and Doctor Fate. If there's a reason Gotham picked up Ben McKenzie, why look for just another Gordon when you have one right there (well Bryan Cranston still works)?

Instead we have a horridly out of date, collection of DC properties turned live action with no rhyme or reason.
