The Suicide Squad had a few breakout characters, but John Cena definitely made an impact as Christopher Smith. Now, he's set to reprise the role in next January's Peacemaker TV series on HBO Max, and there's clearly a lot left to explore given the way things ended for the Task Force X member.
After killing Rick Flag at Amanda Waller's behest, the villain was gunned down by Bloodsport, but later revealed to be alive in a post-credits scene which confirmed that he was needed to "save the f***ing world."
"I loved the 1970s Captain America [TV movie] when I was a kid," writer and director James Gunn tells EW. "I thought making a really f***ed-up version of that with Peacemaker would be fun." He adds that this is "the most incredible TV show people will ever see," revealing "I would like to do a season 2. They just have to tell me that they want to do it."
As for what leads to Peacemaker being called back into action, all Gunn will say is that the show revolves around "black ops combating something catastrophic that's facing the planet" (you can see that "black ops" team in the new still below).
Thanks to the site, we can also confirm that Chukwudi Iwuji is group leader Murn, a mercenary who reports to Waller, Danielle Brooks is Adebayo, and Freddie Stroma is Vigilante.
Something tells us Peacemaker is going to be a lot of fun. The first trailer drops at DC FanDome!
