Peacemaker was renewed for a second season shortly after the finale aired, but with all the changes and shake-ups stemming from the formation of DC Studios and James Gunn taking the job as co-CEO, fans had been wondering if the filmmaker would ever get around to revisiting the show.
Gunn has now shared an update, and it's a good news/bad news situation: Peacemaker season 2 is still happening, but we're going to be waiting a long time for it to return to our screens.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director confirmed that Superman: Legacy is going to be keeping him busy for the next couple of years, which means John Cena won't be suiting-up as the ultra-violent vigilante again until 2025 at the earliest.
It's totally understandable that Gunn will need to put certain projects in the back-burner with everything he had going on at the moment, but we're sure many will be disappointed with this update.
This doesn't mean we won't see any Peacemaker characters in the DCU before then, however. Both John Economos (Steve Agee) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) recently showed up in Shazam! Fury of the Gods' post-credits scene, and we also have HBO Max's Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) spin-off show on the way.
