PENNYWORTH Season 3 Teaser Trailer Reveals Hilarious New Title: THE ORIGIN OF BATMAN'S BUTLER

Yes, that really is the official title of the upcoming third season of Epix's Pennyworth, which, as far as we can tell, will chart the origin of Batman's butler. Check out the first teaser trailer.

Epix really wants everyone to know that Pennyworth is a Batman-related show.

Just in case the premise of the series wasn't already abundantly clear, the upcoming third season has been given the hilariously direct new title, The Origin of Batman's Butler.

To be fair, putting the word "Batman" into the title is a smart move and probably will result in a few more viewers, but surely they could have come up with something better than this?

IGN has also debuted an official plot synopsis, which reveals a new time-period and confirms that we're going to start seeing more super-powered characters enter the fray.

“Season three of the psychological thriller begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains.”

Check out the teaser below, and let us know what you make of the new title. Have you been watching Pennyworth? Is it worth checking out? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler stars Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, and Simon Manyonda. Season 3 is set to premiere on HBO Max this October.

Listen: I’m sure this show is great, but why does it need to exist? Are the good parts of the show good because you know that this guy will one day be Batman’s butler? If not, then why does this need to be tied to anything at all?

@HAILHYDRA - Actually, almost other way around. Now granted, I've only seen the first season, but this show does a surprising amount of worldbuilding from the get go. It is set in a alternative history 1960's London where pillory is still used for punishments and public hangings are televised live. Alfred is a veteran in a private security buisness and gets in tangled in these cold war -era secret societies. This show could've gone it's own path and become a cult classic, had it not been tied down by this pre-notion that it's suppose to lead up to Batman at some point in the future (and don't let's not even mention Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane). By slapping the name of Batman's butler on the main character, the show probably pushed away more potential audience than brought in. Since that made many nerds like us see it just as money-grabbing unnecessary prequel and the common audience would never be interested in a supposed Batman prequel anyway.

So to answer your question; yes, this show would justify its existence even with out Batman connection. Maybe even better, since IMO, that connection is fighting against the shows own identity.

@HAILHYDRA -
I was thinking the same thing and I'm sure that guy from Discovery has been thinking things like that the whole time. There is such a glut of DC content on the TV that is really CW quality. Just out of curiosity if you added up all the revenue from all the DC TV, the Arroverse, Flash, this, the JSA stuff, Stargirl would it equal the profit from one good Superman movie that brings $1.32 Billion? I think that's the calculus that they are making at the top. Pinch off Dawson's Creek in spandex and devote the resources to making good films that raise the profile fo the characters.

Just sayin'

I didn’t know this is still a thing. I was bored to sleep for most of the first seasons episodes. I gave up quickly after that.

3 seasons. Of a prequel series for Batmans butler… I can’t with this nonsense. People will watch literally any of crap if it’s connected to Batman

Hearing Titans has also been renamed "Titans: The Origins of Batman's Various Sidekicks and Their Miserable Friends," Peacemaker season 2 is, "Peacemaker: That Prick With The Shiny Helmet From The Suicide Squad," and they're also brigning back Gotham for another run - "Gotham: The City That Batman Lives In."

This is an attempt to get more viewers because nobody knows who the guy is.

It's smart but a desperate and cringe title.

The most under the radar CBTV show ever. Under the entire submarine, somewhere towards the sea bed.
