STARGIRL Concept Art Provides A Much Better Look At Wildcat's Full Costume Design

We have glimpsed Yolanda Montez, aka Wildcat, on the official poster for The CW's Stargirl, but now we have a much better look at the full costume the JSA member will sport thanks to some new artwork...

A style sheet spotlighting the outfit that'll be donned by Yolanda Montez, aka Wildcat, in the upcoming Stargirl series has been shared to Instagram by costume designer Gina Flanagan, and it provides a much better look at the (mostly) comic-accurate character design.

For the most part, Courtney Whitmore's (Brec Bassinger) JSA teammates have been absent from the marketing for Stargirl, but we did recently get a first glimpse of Wildcat on a poster. The character will be played by Rambo: Last Blood actress Yvette Monreal.

In the comics, Montez inherits the mantle of Wildcat from her godfather Ted Grant after he's crippled during the events of the original Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline. Unlike Grant, Yolanda is actually a metahuman with cat-like abilities, although we're not sure if that's going to be the case for her live-action counterpart.

We recently found out that Stargirl had been delayed, but only by a week. The show will now hit DC Universe on Monday, May 18th, and make its broadcast TV debut on The CW the following day, Tuesday, May 19th, at 8/7c.

Do you guys plan on giving Stargirl a shot? Let us know in the comments.

Of all the shows ever to be based on DC properties, this is the one I'm most surprised got picked up. Stargirl is perhaps one of the most obscure DC characters to ever get her own show. I hope that's because the pitch blew everyone away and it is deserved.

An alternative is the Johns used his pull to get his own character a show even if other characters deserved it more.

@Nightwing1015 - To be fair, the show has a great narrative behind it. Geoff Johns sister died in a plane crash and he created Stargirl to honour her memory, so for that to eventually translate to a successful network TV show would probably look great in execs eyes. If it does, however, is a different story entirely...

@tmp3 - Yeah I've heard that's how the character was conceived. I just hope there's enough good material in those comic to carry a whole TV show.

@Nightwing1015 - at the end of the day its gonna be a high school drama for teenagers , calm down lmao just like smallville back in the day when it started i was the same age as CK on the show . i see what they want to do , its not gonna be for us but for our kids/little siblings

@Krav - IDK I think Smallville was really high quality in those first 4 seasons. If it's like Smallville then I will consider it "for us". I'd be happy to watch another Smallville-esque comic book show.

@Krav - Personally, I think good shows cross demographics. There's certainly nothing wrong with aiming a Stargirl series at the YA crowd, skewing female. But if it's genuinely good, then it will find a robust audience outside that target.

I would like to think that all of these shows and movies are aiming to break out of their base niche, because that's what has made superheroes so popular now (FoX-Men and the MCU saw comic dorks as the foundation of their fandom, but sought to broaden the scope dramatically, too).

Once a show or movie says "it's just for X" I feel like it's already losing, even if I'm the X.

@Krav - why is everyone treating this like it’s being produced as a CW show when it’s from the DC Universe?

@Nightwing1015 - Other characters certainly deserve it more. Starman, for example, have a richer and better developed mythology. Stargirl is happening because of Johns.

@marvel72 - Ted Grant’s goddaughter became Wildcat in the 80’s.

@TheUnworthyThor - That pic is drawn by Todd McFarlane and Jerry Ordway??? That’s such an odd combo I had to look up the full page. I loved the old DC Who’s Who...

@CaptainJCipher - Yeah, that was genuinely disappointing. Ted Grant as Wildcat would've been a great recurring role in the show, yet he never once wore a comic-accurate costume. The most memorable thing regarding that character was this:

Doesn’t look like the final product differed too much from the concept art. I hope they share more of these from the rest of characters.

I was coming down to say what an egg-shaped heelmet she has, but I see that's already gaining a consensus.

How about we just make every character female, and then ask permission for which ones we can make male for a limited time basis?

I'm not against the gender swap on occasion, but since I like D-list characters every one I like gets treated as disposable.
DTor91
DTor91 - 4/13/2020, 11:40 AM
@fadersdream - This Wildcat is straight out the comics and is the god daughter of Ted Grant. This isn’t a gender swap, there’s precedence for her.
