Comic Book Resources caught up with Melissa Benoist (Glee) at Film Independent's Spirit Awards this Sunday, and the site were quick to ask our new Supergirl about how she feels to be taking on the role in the CBS series from producers Greg Berlanti (The Flash) and Ali Adler (The New Normal). "What's so wonderful about her is that she is such a relatable character, amongst her powers," she said when asked how she feels about Supergirl. "What I'm the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength, and I think that's something that everyone will root for and want in their own lives – I'm really excited about that."

Unfortunately, she wasn't willing to confirm whether or not she will be suiting up as Supergirl (though we've heard multiple times that the character WILL have her costume), but Benoist did confirm that she's been looking closely at the various comic book versions of it. "It's a little daunting," she laughed. "It's daunting, but that's good. I like being pushed. I work well under pressure." Finally, as for how it feels to land such a high profile gig, the Whiplash actress added: "I think if you told my five-year-old self that all this would be happening in this period of time, I would not have believed you! Because it's been really wonderful. I feel so privileged to be working and doing what I've always loved to do since I was four years old…I'm a little overwhelmed by it, to be honest." Are you looking forward to seeing Benoist as Supergirl?

I hope she's wearing the famous skirt over the New 52 look.

I'd rather see Snyder handle her on the silver screen.

I would LOVE this costume.

HOWEVER, the ability to get the skirt length correct will be VERY difficult on network (especially CBS) TV. Too short, and it's cheesy/sleezy. Too long, and it's WAY unhip.

"What I'm the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength"

So the most exciting thing about the role to her is showing us why all aliens are secretly humans. I hate that crap. Don't humanize her. She's a Kryptonian. Show me why she's different than every other BS character on every other show on television. If I wanted a down to Earth human story, I wouldn't be watching a show about an alien who can fly and shoot frickin' lasers from her eyes.

But just how they're butchering the characters too much is ridiculous

They keep describing her best known work incorrectly. She's best known for her roles as "Cowgirl" and "Doggystyle" in "The Fappening".

@nibs

Dude come one 90% of these actors or actresses do not read comic books. Do really think RDJ or Henry Cavill know all the details on the character they playing when they got casted?

I am sure they ended up doing their due diligence after the casting.
