CBS have confirmed that Whiplash star Melissa Benoist will play Supergirl in the upcoming TV series of the same name. Other credits include Homeland and The Good Wife, but like The Flash's Grant Gustin, Benoist is pehaps best known for the popular singalong series Glee. In Supergirl, she will play Kara Zor-El, who escaped her home planet of Krypton amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has concealed the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. A number of key roles still need to be cast. Thoughts on this latest small screen Supergirl?

UPDATE: Here are some Tweets from Benoist and her fellow DC TV superheroes, along with a glimpse of her transformation from brunette to blonde...she's looking great, don't you think?

But I started watching Constantine and that show is [frick]ing awesome. I just saw the episode teasing the Spectre last night and it was the balls.

Liked her in Whiplash for what she played, but not feeling this. To be fair I didn't like Gustin as the Flash but I was wronged so..

Well another show I am looking forward to.

And is the show needed......nope!

Are people asking for this show........nope!

Gotham was not wanted nor needed but it has shown that it can get great ratings and hold an audience, so I am sure that will be the same with this show.

So just to be clear...this won't have anything to do with Man of Steel and the WB/DC universe, right?

@blackandyellow

Constantine is very good, sad that NBC treated the show badly by putting it in a bad time slot and no promotion.

That being said I hope CW picks up the show, they would love those ratings on their network. Also it will get the TLC that is so deserves.

I know how the die hard Marvel fans cannot look past a shared universe, but oh well life moves on.

Haven't seen her in anything, except that small role in Homeland I'd forgotten about, but I'm still intrigued.

@SauronsBANE @ALegendaryPanda I think ever since Ezra Miller, Will Smith and Jai Courtney were cast as The Flash, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang, I think it's safe to say the TV shows are not connected to the DCCU.

@JoeMomma29 They thought the Grimm crowd would crossover, but sadly that wasn't the case.

@EzioKenway1225 @ALegendaryPanda Ah, thanks!

@JoeMomma29 Let's be honest with ourselves here, a shared universe would be infinitely better than a separate movie universe and then a BUNCH of separate TV universes all going on at the same time.

On the other hand, as messy at that is, it's certainly not a dealbreaker or anything either. If the show's good, it's good. Simple as that!

So WB/DC is really whoring themselves out right now.

1. Arrow
2. Flash
3. Gotham
4. Constantine
5. IZombie
6. SuperGirl
7. Krypton
8. Preacher
9. Teen Titans
