The Flash aired its penultimate episode on The CW last night, and we now have a first look at next week's series finale.

Along with a poster featuring an unmasked Barry Allen, a promo confirms the Fastest Man Alive is going to be pitted against many of his greatest foes; those include Reverse-Flash, Zoom, and Savitar and, if that brief shot of Eddie Thawne is any indication, he'll be a pivotal part of whatever's going on with the timeline.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Wallace teased what sounds like an epic ending to the long-running series.

"I'm very proud of the whole season, but boy, I can't wait for the fans to see these last episodes," he teased prior to the WGA strike. "I can't wait to unleash them on the world. We have some people that have been with the show since day one, and they gave their greatest performances ever."

"It's just a labor of love all around. The crew, cast, writers, directors, everybody, it's the hardest we've ever worked. Not that we haven't had even bigger episodes because certainly a crossover is bigger, but the commitment to excellence that everybody was bringing with knowing that these were the last batch of Flash episodes was unmatched."

"We were a family," Wallace concludes. "I'm going to miss my Flash family."

The Flash's season 9/series finale is titled "A New World, Part Four," and it will see the Scarlet Speedster tasked with his greatest challenge yet, to save the timeline and save existence. Friends old and new gather for an epic battle to save Central City, one last time.

Check out the poster and teaser below.

Pretty weak season, the finals have been OK but just wished after 10 years of the whole arrowverse they could of pulled off something bigger, bringing back as many characters from the whole arrowverse for a justice league style finale

@godzilla83 - that would have been cool. I'd have been with the Oliver episode being the finale.

@godzilla83 - They didn't write the ending of the show as to also end the Arrowverse, just the show of Flash. The ending will leave some hints of where the characters and stories of The Flash go next, off-camera.

And with a shortened Season of just 13 episodes the budget doesn't allow them to bring back that many characters from the franchise, because it's just wrapping up The Flash.

It was a great series for about 2 years. The character of The Flash never progressed. He always needed a team of shit heads to give him orders. Too much Candice Patton. It became unwatchable in season 4. I might watch a clip of the finale scene.

Hasn't every baddie just been a version of Flash since season 2? LOL.

This season has been all over the place, and this Cobalt Blue story feels rushed. This is the story they should’ve been focusing on the entire season instead of that horrible Red Death arc and freaking one-off episodes about Cecille, Allegra, Chester, etc. I’m hoping the finale can af least stick the landing, but it’s a good thing this show is ending. It’s clearly running on fumes at this point.

@LeonNova - They could've began telling it around 9x08 or 9x09 but not the whole Season because the budget for a truncated story of just 13 episodes can only allow them to bring back a few guest stars, especially Eddie's actor who is the one that has been featured the most.

Really dig that new poster. Barry holding the cowl in his hands reminds me a little to those Raimi Spidey movie posters with Peter also holding his mask.

There are also exclusive stills for the final episode that came with the EW articles. I'll post them.

And an extended final trailer with more footage than that 20 second one. Gives us our first look at Eddie suited up as Cobalt Blue.
