THE FLASH: Expect To See A Very Different Barry Allen When Season 4 Kicks Off

Grant Gustin has weighed in on the impact being trapped in the Speed Force for six months will have had on Barry and it sounds like the Scarlet Speedster's upcoming Rebirth is going to lead to big changes.

When we last saw Barry Allen, he had decided to save the world by trapping himself in the Speed Force. In his absence, Team Flash has been forced to make do but in the season four premiere they'll realise that six months without the Fastest Man Alive is six too many! However, while the episode's title may be "Flash Reborn," it sounds like the Barry who returns is a lot different to the one that left.

What that's going to entail is hard to say but based on comments from star Grant Gustin in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, it appears as if the trauma of being in there will hit Barry hard.

"The way I see it is, time is non-linear and everything is happening at once in the Speed Force. In someways he’s had an awakening and he’s had a rebirth. Our first episode is called ‘Reborn,’ and it is a rebirth for Barry, but he’s kind of scrambled, too, because he’s experienced so much so quick over the course of six months, even though for him it was an eternity. He’s not Barry when we see him for the first time."

That's definitely intriguing and it appears as if the Flash will need some time to readjust upon his return. We also don't know who will be taking his place in the Speed Force so this premiere leaves us with a lot of questions! They'll be addressed this fall but in the meantime, share your thoughts below.

@Ha1frican - yeah no way in hell is that happening. Wally or anyone else for that matter can carry the show like Grant Gustin does

@Himura - agreed. Wally is not compelling as a lead. Besides Barry Allen has always been The Flash to me. Jay is a close second.

So this confirms he's coming back in the first episode?

Ugh.

I use to love this show. Season 1 was great because of how small & personal it was. It was all about finding out who killed Barry's mom & who the man in yellow was. It was a mystery that we wanted to see unveiled.

Then Season 2 & 3's quality dropped. Mostly because the people doing these shows are working on numerous CW DC shows at one time.

You know something is wrong when the only good & emotional episodes of the past 2 seasons were the ones directed by Kevin Smith

Rebirth better not be a disappointing retelling of DC Rebirth like CW Flashpoint

@malsemarcel - it's not of DC Rebirth but the comic Flash Rebirth from years ago

@LEVITIKUZ - The one from 2009? Well, my argument doesn't change

@malsemarcel - let it go. The writers are gonna pick and choose what they want from the mythos and create their own story. Don't expect them to adapt any storyline verbatim.
