Shia Says He Wants To Do A "Y: The Last Man" Movie After All!

Reports of Shia LeBeouf's disinterest in playing Yorick in "Y: The last Man" have apparently been greatly exaggerated..

The good news for "Y" fans is that a new script is being co-written by the creator of the comic Brian K. Vaughan. The bad news(if your not a Shia fan that is) is that "The Beef" says hes still definitely on board.

This is taken from a press appearance for Transformers 2...

"Y: The Last Man" is my favorite comic book. It's also [director] DJ Caruso's favorite comic book. We DO want to make it... Vaughn and [screenwriter Carl] Ellsworth and DJ are writing the script now. The script is not ready to be shot. DJ is making a different movie right now. He's making "Jack and the Beanstalk". There's just other things going on with DJ and I wouldn't want to make the movie with anybody else because he loves it like I do. But I don't think Vaughn is trying to give it to anybody else. I think that it is something that's very realistic, it's just not in the pipe for the next year."

I really don't mind Shia LeBeouf, he certainly doesn't annoy me as much as he seems to a lot of others. That being said, with my experience of "Y" limited to 2 or 3 issues, he doesn't seem right for the role of Yorick.

Agreed. I wish they would go with a lot more unknowns instead of big Hollywood names.

Exactly Instigator @ ; )

Just because their UNKNOWNS don't mean they don't deserve a chance to make it big, i feel if movies like GL, CAPTAIN AMERICA, Y etc etc go for big stars like BRAD PITT, SHIA etc, its just selling out! An the film a lil dumbed down.

Look at SUPERMAN REEVES, JACKMAN, etc, they are made for their characters! Don't have to be completely Unknowns but just not BIG BIG Stars, its takes away some of the movie!

Dear god, WHEN will this end?! I'm tired of the same 10 people getting all of the roles! I know Hollywood has run out of ideas of their own, but have they run out of people too?! It'd be OK if most of them could act, but as they can't why should we the public have to put up with this crap JUST 'cause they're the flavor of the week?!

Sirprize, its silver screen, and i don't understand how you can say to pick a unknown, i want some class, and then say to pick Ryan Reynolds, you are completely contradicting yourself. If you want a good role, give it to someone with talent, maybe people like Shia have been picked because they have already been discovered for their talent. Why would casting waste their time looking through a bunch of unknowns when they already have a huge stars with talent that will bring in money to the movie

Shia is good for the role in only the physical aspect.Dont get me wrong..i have loved him since even stevens but his characters always seem to be the same. I would love to have someone else play Yorick.

Ryan might be a lil too old to play yorick but i get where you are coming from SirPrize. He is a lil like Yorick

"I want some class on the silver scene. Not some freaking punk. Pick an unknown or Ryan, it will improve the overall experience."
Pretty much saying Ryan should be slected at Yoric..

I have nothing against unknowns, like Leee said, everyone has to start somewhere! But the reason established names are used is to sell the movie. We all get exited by hearing out fave actor will be in a new movie, doubly so if its a CBM. When i heard Wolverine was being played by someone i had never heard of i was pissed off. Now it so happened that it worked out because Jackman did a great job but i was very nervous walking in to see that first X Men!

Honestly..i am absolutely tired of seeing the same ppl on the big screen. Who remembers when Jude law was in every freaking movie? Like what da hell was that about? This is what casting is about...they need to discover new talents. Its the lack of fresh talent that makes it possible for Nicolas Cage to keep getting movie roles. I cant stand that dude and his hair!

they can have big names in supporting roles and have an unknown as Yorick.

@ MsKyle.....although that idea sounds good in principal, hollywood studios, ANY hollywood studio, will probably stray away from that idea...that could end up meaning a possible blockbuster movie with a supporting cast that upstages the lead role....

An unknown isn't always good. Has everyone forgotten Hayden Christiansen f'ing up Star Wars, and that little shit that played Anakin in the Phantom Menace? I think he'll do a fine job. It'll give him a chance to actually act instead of just run around yelling. I think people don't like him because he's making shitloads of money without actually acting and he gets to hang out with Megan Fox all day. He was great in Holes and Disturbia, and Eagle Eye. I didn't really watch Even Stevens very much, but he wasn't bad on that show either.

he plays the same character over and over. Young dude who finds himself in a predicament and has to do all kinds of shit to get out of it. Womp Womp. No to Shia!
Still love him tho.

We should have Samuel L. Jackson play Yorick. :)

Its not that I dont think LeBeouf can do the job, but give another Hollywood 20 something a shot. This dude seems to have a monopoly on these type of rolls. On the other hand if he is a big a fan of the comic as he says perhaps he'll commit more than some other actor. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

No Shia LeBeouf in Y: The Last Man!!!

I was so happy about that news, not only because I can't stand Shia, but because I honestly believe he would do the role of Yorick no good. And now this, damn...! :-(

Oh well, I won't give up the hope for a great Y movie. A bunch of great Y movies, that is. Now way they could make ONE movie out of this scource material. IF Shia gets the role, however, I might wish for just one movie. Hurm, the guy didn't do me any wrong, but boy do I not like him!!

I agree with longbowhunter and I think that they could find someone else for this role. Granted I have myself have only read a handful of issues but I dont really picture him as Yorick.

I also want a tauntaun sleeping bag.

My vote is for unknown, no Shia LeBouf, same for 355 cast an unknown same as Hero.
