HBO's
Game of Thrones headed
into this year's Emmy Awards with a whopping 32 nominations, and while it only won 2 last night (12 in total after last week's Creative Arts Emmy wins), they were major ones.
The phenomenal fantasy series picked up the award for Outstanding Drama for the fourth consecutive time, while Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) also won Best Supporting Actor. The show went in with nods for nine actors, however, and many fans were disappointing that the likes of Emilia Clarke, Gwendoline Christie and Lena Headey were not recognized for their work.
"We loved every minute we spent with you," executive producer D.B. Weiss said to the cast on stage. David Benioff then added:
"These last ten years have been the best years of our lives."
Game of Thrones is now tied with
Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, The West Wing, and
Mad Men for most wins in the best drama category.
