Clark Gregg Indicates Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Will End After Season 7

It appears that seventh season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be the show's last, according to recent comments made by Clark Gregg while promoting Captain Marvel. Hit the jump for details...

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a constant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the beginning of Phase Two, spinning off from the events in The Avengers and, since then, it has referenced and incorporated elements from various films, most notably Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War

Several years later, the fan-favorite series is still running strong, with the show's sixth season set to debut in May and production on season seven currently underway. However, according to star Clark Gregg, the show's seventh season may very well turn out to be its last.

During an interview with KTLA5 on Monday, on the Captain Marvel press tour, Gregg reflected on his role as Phil Coulson and how it's progressed throughout the first decade of the MCU, saying: “Here I am, eleven years later. We just started shooting the seventh, and final season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in Culver City, and it’s been an incredible ride.

You can watch Gregg's comments below about Coulson, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Captain Marvel.

Gregg's comments about the seventh season do seem to hold a sense of finality for the series, though its important to note that the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast thought the show would end after Season 5, only for the series to get renewed an additional two seasons. Perhaps Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will continue on a different platform but, if Season 7 is indeed the last, it will have been one hell of a run.

If Season 7 will truly be the end, its been one hell of an amazing ride that has firmly cemented SHIELD as the greatest comic book series out there.

5-7 season/years is a great ending point for most shows imo. That's the sweet spot where you don't overstay your welcome, but you have told the MOST story you can without doing so.

@BlackBeltJones - as long as its a creative decision, rather than a mandate from executives, then fine. Wouldn't want it to be a case like Ash v Evil Dead where the crew planned to keep going but were told the ride was over. If the SHIELD cast and crew feel that they need to end the show after 7 seasons, then fine.

Better to die a hero than live to see yourself become the villain etc etc, but seriously. Every season since the fourth when ABC wanted to cancel it but Disney saved it has been the last season.

@Reeds2Much - yeah that's why I put that "note" in the article, because Gregg himself has said that they all thought season 5 was the end. So just because he is saying that season 7 is the end doesn't necessarily mean that will be the case, especially if the next two seasons are as strong as the last three and do well.

Sounds good to me. Especially if Nick Fury comes back to leading SHIELD in the movies

Would be a shame, but better to end on a high note!

I think that was pretty clear when they greenlight both seasons at once that they said “Let is wrap this up the right way” and gave them an outline for ending the show over those two seaoans

Season 5 was great, but for me Season 4 Ghost Rider is still the absolute Agents of SHIELD top, so I hope it returns to that with these last few seasons
