Netflix VP Offers A LUKE CAGE Season 3 Update And Says DAREDEVIL Season 3 Is A "Return To Form"

Netflix's Vice President of original content Cindy Holland has shared some insight into the future of both Daredevil and Luke Cage, while teasing plans for more Marvel spinoffs on the streaming service...

Over the weekend, Netflix attended the Television Critics Association press tour and the subject of Marvel understandably came up. Asked about what comes next for Luke Cage after that stellar second season, Netflix's Vice President of original content Cindy Holland said that "We haven’t made any firm decisions yet" in regards to renewing the series (which actually seems like a pretty odd decision).

Despite that, Deadline notes that a writers room is currently working on a third season so the online streaming service could just be waiting to see what viewership numbers are before making a decision.

As for Daredevil, it sounds like the planned third season will return the series to its roots after a messy second year which put more of the spotlight on The Punisher and Elektra rather than the Man Without Fear. "The biggest issue was the timing of production and launching of The Defenders because what that meant is we had to shut down all of the shows, so all the actors be available for The Defenders so it’s more function of that," Holland said in regards to why it doesn't have an air date quite yet.

"There is no problem with this season, I think it’s fantastic, it’s
real return to form in my view."

We recently heard that any future Marvel TV shows will air on Disney's planned streaming service but it sounds like Netflix is still mulling over the possibility of spinoffs set in the world of The Defenders

"Season 2 is a return to form"? thought we'd seen that already.

Editor must edit

@Nebula - I do also feel Josh's pain that he has to use pictures of a Hot Toys figure because there are so few good shots of Cox in the suit.

Luke Cage S2 was awesome. More Fisk and Buschamster or Billy Russo, less crap like immortal daddy from Iron Fist or crazy stupid mother from JJ.

I actually like Daredevil's second season about as much as the first. And the first half of S02 was the strongest the series ever was. Tight, sharp, and really compelling TV.

It's crazy how accelerated these series actually are compared to traditional television and how much they still fall short of our expectations of where they should be. This show could easily end up being six or eight seasons long. A bumpy stretch of five or six episodes is hardly a terminal misstep.

@Spock0Clock - Now that you mention it; yeah, the Punisher parts were really top-level stuff. Shame about the rest.

@Nebula - The Daredevil stuff, too. That stretch where Matt is trying to make a normal life with Karen, then struggling to balance his two lives once Elektra shows up, it's all really great stuff.

It's those [frick]ing ninjas in the SUVs, I swear! They're the problem!

@Nebula - I honestly thought season 2 wasn’t that bad. The hand stuff wasn’t fantastic, but as @Spock0Clock said, the stuff with Karen, Frank, and even the slow breakdown of his life as “Matt Murdock” was engaging and well done. It’s quite an interesting arc, especially since season three is based around Born Again.

@Spock0Clock - The problem was those ninjas weren't cut down by Punisher's minigun. Seriously. The promos had him using it to hose down something, and then it never happened. Booooouuurrrrrnnnsssss!

Haven’t really got any intentions of watching Luke Cage S2, I just find Colter so boring in the role, and I haven’t even mustered enough interest in Iron Fist S2 to watch the trailer.

But Daredevil S3 and Punisher S2? [frick], I’ll be waiting to watch those the minute they drop. Daredevil S2 got a little muddled as it progressed but it was still amazing. It’s an incredible show, as is Punisher. I’d love to see those characters pop up in an Avengers film exactly as they are. Put Luke in a Cage though and let Danny Rand go fist himself, they suck on Netflix.

@connorblaze - same here, the whole Luke Cage setting isnt that compelling in my opinion

@connorblaze - Actually, Luke Cage S2 is really, really good imo (and way better than DD Season 2 too). And I didn't like the first season that much, honestly. Great character development this second season! Please, give it a try!

@connorblaze - I think you have hit the nail on the head. I've really wanted to like it, but something was off. Looking back, I think your comment about him being boring is it. I really dug Bushmaster though. It's sad when you like the 'bad' guy more!

@EskimoJ - its too slow and aside from bushmaster all the characters are quite boring imo

Season 1 - Epic and revolutionary

Season 2 - Actually pretty solid foundations but tried to setup way too many things

Season 3 - Improvement on the second one but still not as good as the first

So, Daredevil's gonna be just like the Iron Man trilogy then.

The original article is on Deadline.Com.

Please notice that no really new IP was mentioned. Spin-offs are not something "new". It's really not all that hard to see that Netflix is not going to get anything outside of thr IP they already have. So no Moon Knight, Blade, or any of the other darker titles that people bring up.

I don't feel ashamed saying i liked DD S2...basically just as much as S1, but i AM ashamed when i say i also...kinda....liked...

...
Defenders... :|

For me it's:
DD
JJ S1/Punisher

LC S2

LC S1 first half

gutter trash

LC S2 second half
IF
(let's put some gap here)

(some more)

JJ S2 (yep, hated this shit).

Dunno where i should put Defenders tho, around LC S1 first Half i guess. :3

DD season 2 was....good. Damn good. The first 4 episodes are almsot flawless imo.

That season was like a Bendis comic come to life

At this point, short of a Daughters of the Dragon spin-off, they will have pretty much done all the spin-offs they could do with the current slate of Marvel/Netflix shows.

I think it’s time to take things in a supernatural direction:

The second season of DD was [frick]ing amazing imo, almost on par with the first season. There's room for improvement for LC though.
