The Falcon and The Winter Soldier nailed Sam Wilson's Captain America costume, though we learned in the Assembled "Making of" special that issues with the cowl meant visual effects were needed to make it look perfect on screen. Regardless, as badass as Cap's Wakandan costume was, it very nearly boasted a few extra features.
Among them was an ability that would have allowed Sam to use his wings to throw the shield at foes!
Talking to Screen Rant, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier VFX supervisor Eric Leven revealed: "There were a lot of other ideas, like, 'What if he could do this? What if he saves this? What if he does that?' So, there were little bits of exploratory things. Early on, we were trying to figure out how to use the wings and the shield together. So, we had a lot of really cool ways, like maybe the wings actually catch the shield and it comes back - or the wings can actually throw the shield."
"There were explorations like that," he continued. "It just happened that for this show, we didn't have the chance to use that stuff. Maybe that stuff gets used in the future, or maybe not."
It's a neat idea, but one that runs the risk of looking a little goofy in motion. We'd definitely enjoy seeing what Sam using his wings to catch and throw the shield would look like in live-action, and there could be room to explore this ability when Captain America 4 rolls around. After all, the Wakandans are bound to have included some neat gadgets the hero can make good use of moving forward!
