FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER Considered Giving Captain America The Ability To Throw The Shield With His Wings

One of the VFX Supervisors who worked on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has revealed that Marvel Studios considered giving Sam Wilson the ability to use his wings to throw the shield as Captain America.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier nailed Sam Wilson's Captain America costume, though we learned in the Assembled "Making of" special that issues with the cowl meant visual effects were needed to make it look perfect on screen. Regardless, as badass as Cap's Wakandan costume was, it very nearly boasted a few extra features.

Among them was an ability that would have allowed Sam to use his wings to throw the shield at foes!

Talking to Screen RantThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier VFX supervisor Eric Leven revealed: "There were a lot of other ideas, like, 'What if he could do this? What if he saves this? What if he does that?' So, there were little bits of exploratory things. Early on, we were trying to figure out how to use the wings and the shield together. So, we had a lot of really cool ways, like maybe the wings actually catch the shield and it comes back - or the wings can actually throw the shield."

"There were explorations like that," he continued. "It just happened that for this show, we didn't have the chance to use that stuff. Maybe that stuff gets used in the future, or maybe not."

It's a neat idea, but one that runs the risk of looking a little goofy in motion. We'd definitely enjoy seeing what Sam using his wings to catch and throw the shield would look like in live-action, and there could be room to explore this ability when Captain America 4 rolls around. After all, the Wakandans are bound to have included some neat gadgets the hero can make good use of moving forward!

I kinda expected Sam to launch the shield from his jetpack like he did with Redwing, similar to this move in Civil War:

As for the VFX in is this show, those were amazing. Especially for a tv show I could barely tell how much was actually VFX.

@bkmeijer - he obviously didn't do very much of anything in Infinity War/Endgame, but I routinely forget how much he got leveled up in Civil War. There was such an overwhelming amount of cool characters doing cool stuff in that movie that I always gloss over how awesome he was

I'd like a scene where he throws the shield at a bad guy, it bounces back, he hits it with his right wing, bounces off again towards the bad guy, then he does a spin and while the shield shoots back the second time he backhand hits it with his left wing and then after the third bounce on the bad guy he catches it again.

The triple threat!

This Falcon story just gets more ridiculous by the day. Bored now, when Loki start? Hopefully we can all move onto something more interesting then.

@Spike101 - if it depends on Josh we won't, he'll make a post every single day about some ridiculous thing of this show. It's exhausting to see how much he can push with this crap

@braunermegda - 😂 Yes agreed. Flogging a dead horse springs to mind.

Sounds stupid....but also cool if you can envision it the right way. For example if the Shield was throw from his back glide magnetically threw his wing...I think that would look cool

I know it's comic accurate, but the back of Sam's head looks super weird with that headpiece on.
The suit is awesome as a whole.

@OuzoPowerMan - they need to tighten the fabric

The suit looks really bad imo, the VFX artists made an amazing job trying to make it look as cool as possible. At least it's not Avengers 1's Cap, but it's damn close. I hope they ditch the cowl for future installments.

They should tighten the cowl or lose it.

They need to have Sam fly down at full speed and bash somebody or something with the shield.

This is my first comment on this site since the show started, sorry but I did not like it. To me it got worse as it went on tho episode five was worse than six.

Things I 🤮:
Karli was lame, not helped by the fact she was scared of the even lamer Power Broker. Sharon having a flame war with Karli who ghosted her was just too much for me. Scared of a threat that was never lived up to. Therefore Batroc’s death was twice as lame as anyone’s in the MCU. But at least it won’t cost much to go as a Flag Smasher to Comic Con, just grab my old Uruk Hai mask and Nondescript Eastern European Garb. Boy did they talk a lot in a show that I thought was gonna be the next Winter Soldier.

Things that were aite:
Falcon
Buck
Zemo

Things I liked:
some pretty good fights
Not my Cap was pretty good

Thing I loved:
Anything with the wakandans

The bad outweighed the good, 2 of 5 stars to me, like Captain Marvel and Thor 1&2.

@TheWalkingCuban - yeah, the Power Broker was kinda underwhelming. Especially since the twist didn't really feel that shocking as its meant to be.

Anyways, welcome back

@bkmeijer - thanks for the warm welcome. Well I’m going to redeem Sharon in my mind by saying when she is Sharon, she can take on a bunch of mercenaries. But she sucks as the powerbroker. That’s not great though, that’s like saying Bruce is cooler than Hulk. It would have to be a pretty lame Incredible Hulk. Don’t get me wrong, I like our Bruce Banner and all that, just making a point
