While it's been widely reported that Loki will receive two seasons on Disney+, most of the shows coming to the streaming service appear to be one-and-done. That makes sense if they're setting up future big screen stories, but it would be strange for characters like Moon Knight and She-Hulk to get their own shows and then just become supporting players in the movie franchises of other heroes.
During today's global press conference for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige elaborated on how they're approaching the stories which play out on television.
"It’s a funny question and one we get asked much more in television because people expect it to be like we know [beforehand]," Feige explained. "We really did approach it like we do the movies which is 'We better make this great or we won’t be able to do another one.'"
"If we were able to do another one, there’s certainly ideas," he said of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's future. "The slight difference of course is, as you’ve all heard me say and is becoming clear with WandaVision, they really will go back and forth between Disney+ series and Marvel Studios features. So where characters show up and how will sometimes be in a direct season two, will sometimes be into a feature and then an additional season, we’re just not going to say who does what right this second."
The MCU playing out on an episodic basis is definitely something new for Marvel Studios, so it's no great surprise that they're taking a "wait-and-see" approach to where things go after initial seasons. Something like WandaVision is clearly standalone in nature, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier could quite easily transform into Captain America and Bucky for a possible second season!
Before getting too ahead of ourselves, though, we'll have to see how this story plays out.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier premieres on Disney+ this Friday, March 19th!
