On New Year's Day, Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner very nearly lost his life in a horrific slow plow accident. The actor's recovery is expected to be a lengthy one, but a new report from Mail Online suggests his Hollywood career will be permanently put on the back burner.
According to a supposed insider who has spent time with Renner, "although he does still love acting, Hollywood is just not a priority to him anymore."
"Jeremy believes that he survived the accident so that he can use his platform to really create change in the world," they add. "He is very proud of the work that he has done, but this entire situation has really shown him that there is so much more that he could be doing to help others."
Renner broke more than 30 bones in the accident and is thought to be unable to walk right now. The actor saved his nephew's life on that fateful day, and it sounds like projects such as Disney+'s Rennervations (which sees the Avengers: Endgame star give back to communities across the world) are likely to be his focus moving forward.
We weren't anticipating seeing Renner in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars, while any plans for Hawkeye season 2 are almost certainly on the backburner now.
While Renner will certainly be missed in the MCU over the next few years, the events of Hawkeye did serve as a passing of the baton from Clint Barton to Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. She's yet to make another appearance as the new Hawkeye, but is expected to be a major player in this shared world moving forward.
Ultimately, the most important thing is that Renner is able to make a speedy and successful recovery, and we'll be sure to keep you updated on that as we learn more in the months ahead.
