Well, that was a big roller coaster ride for all of us. Shortly after Kevin Feige reassured fans that Inhumans was still coming to the silver screens, Marvel made a historic deal with IMAX to co-produce a network series at ABC based on the Marvel Property.

Most of us, while slightly disappointed, felt this was a step in a good direction. This project was something that had not been done before and something entirely different. While effectively being fast tracked, the project quickly gained traction by getting show runner Scott Buck, whose previous credits included Dexter and Marvel's own Iron Fist.  Soon afterward, Marvel crafted a wonderful cast, especially with  Iwan Rheon(Game of Thrones) as Maximus and Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) as Black Bolt. All of these developments were quite promising, up until the reception of Iron Fist.

Iron FIst's abyssmal performance, partially due to its own fast tracking, and the cultural criticism of yet another white savior role in comic book media, stirred up doubt, and this doubt only worsened when the first look(pictured above) was released. With a $100 Million budget, the show was effectively supposed to be the network tv equivalent of Game Of Thrones, and yet the first trailers and first look only emphasized the cheap coustumes and set pieces, and the terrible cgi.

So fast forward, Inhumans began its theatrical run last Friday, and the Rotten Tomatoes score is........0%.

Yes, it was that bad. Don't believe me, see for youself.

I guess 54% of the audience liked it, but everyone can accept  that this is not at all what these characters deserve. This is literally a massive disgrace to the world that Jack Kirby and Stan Lee created. The fault does not rest with one person, although some can quickly dismiss Scott Buck as the problem. Yes he is a problem, one of many. As I said earlier, nothing about these episodes was note worthy, the action scenes were sloppy, like on Power Rangers scales, and the cinematography is nothing to boast about. Honestly, Riverdale had better cinematography, and that is shot on cameras no where near the quality of IMAX cameras. The Cast, while they could be talented, felt like they did not want to be there. Iwan Rheon was the only one to take his role seriously, and he did well with whatever material he was given. The line delivery from Medusa was disasterous, and well, about the other cast members, we are yet to see how they performed.

If you think this is me hating on this property, I am not. I am sad that they did this to these characters. I would happily take an Inhumans movie instead of Antman and the Wasp,  and the thing is, Inhumans needs to be done on the silver screen, depicting their powers, and the sheer grandeaur of the Inhumans world and lore, needs a solid budget, and actual talent behind it, not Scott Buck and whoever else worked on this. I don't see how they can improve on it, without retconning it, simply because this was that bad. Some shows can improve with season 2, this could even improve later this season,  but for now, I think Feige, and most of the fans want to just forget this ever existed.

Agreed on all fronts-especially the fast tracking and should have been a movie...the big mistake I see is with Black Bolt(and how he was wrote)...in the comics he is a mighty king not easily beaten by THE FREAKING HULK...in the show he grunted after being hit by a Billy club...that's the show in a nutshell(imo)

Disagree with almost everything. As time goes on its becoming clearer that movie series that start with a team (X-Men,FF,Inhumans)are not as good as those whose teams start with individuals (Avengers). The former lack backstory and character development that can never be done in a short form like a movie. YMMV.

@JDL - X-men was a huge success, GoTG also is, Inhumans didn't get an actual movie, FF is the only one that supports the argument you're making

@EnnisFan - X-Men was anything but a huge success. Not a flop mind you, something in between. Box Office on all but DoFP and Logan was Ant-Man territory and those two were the end of the line for Stewart, McClellan, and Jackman. No more of them so things will get worse for a while.

You are right about GotG. I should have said most rather than all those "that start with a team". Perhaps being more of a comedy helped that one. Hmm Deadpool. More I think about the more I suspect that's the case.

The point was that team-ups in the MCU work better than the X-Men or FF in the regard that the characters are much better grounded and an Inhuman movie would have been no different. At least as long as they were Drama's. As always YMMV.
