THE INHUMANS: Get Better Acquainted With The 10 Main Cast Members Of Marvel And ABC's Upcoming TV Series
The final cast members for Marvel & ABC's The Inhumans were recently announced, & as many of 'em are relative unknowns, we thought we'd take a closer look at them & the characters they'll play.
Following the initial casting announcements for Black Bolt, Medusa, Maximus and Karnak, Marvel revealed which actors would be playing the rest of the main characters on ABC's The Inhumans all at once.
While most of the roster is made up of the established Royal Family members we expected, the majority of the cast are nowhere near as familiar, so we've decided to take a closer look at the 9 actors (and one CG pooch) that will make up the core team.
We'll start with the all-powerful King of The Inhumans.
10. Anson Mount As Black Bolt
Black Bolt was definitely The Inhumans casting fans were paying closest attention to, and many people assumed Marvel would go with a big name star for the leader of team. While Anson Mount is far from unknown, the Hell on Wheels actor is not exactly a household name, either - but, that should all change very quickly once the show premieres. The 44-year-old Tennessee native has also appeared in the likes of LOST, Smallville, and Dollhouse.
This small-screen take on Blackagar Boltagon (yes, that's really his name) is expected to be faithful to the source material in that he won't be much of a chatterbox, so it'll be very interesting to see how Mount approaches that aspect of the character.
Unfortunately, fans have already taken issue with Black Bolt's costume thanks to some recent leaked set pics - though it's possible he will also sport a mask at some point, of course.
9. Serinda Swan As Medusa
The flame-haired Queen of The Inhumans will be played by 32-year-old Canadian actress Serinda Swan, who many fans will know from her appearances on The CW's Smallville as Zatanna back in the day. Swan has also appeared in Supernatural, Tron: Legacy, and played Aphrodite in the Percy Jackson movies.
We don't know too much about the version of Medusa Swan will be portraying, but it's assumed she will be able to psychokineticly control her incredibly durable hair as she does in the comics.
We did get a glimpse of Swan in costume via a batch of distant set images, but aside from the color, it's a little difficult to tell if her outfit will be comic-accurate.
8. Iwan Rheon As Maximus
Iwan Rheon, 31, will probably the most familiar of The Inhumans cast members thanks to his recent turn as absolute bastard (in both senses of the word) Ramsay Bolton on the last couple of seasons of Game of Thrones, though he has also impressed in the likes of Misfits, Vicious, and Under Milk Wood.
The Welsh actor will now add to his roster of villains as Black Bolt's deranged brother, the aptly named Maximus the Mad.
Though Maximus will most likely serve as an antagonist, we're hearing he won't be an out-and-out bad guy, and may even be involved in a love triangle with Black Bolt and Medusa. In the comics, Maximus becomes infatuated with his older brother's wife, but his affections are not returned.
7. Ken Leung As Karnak
A few weeks ago, we found out that a former LOST actor was in line for a role in The Inhumans, and it turned out to be Ken Leung, who we later discovered had been cast as Black Bolt's cousin and closest adviser, Karnak.
Leung is no stranger to the sci-fi/superhero genre, having also popped up in minor roles in the likes of X-Men: The Last Stand and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Described as a "complicated character", Karnak will retain one of his primary comic book abilities (or at least, a variation on it) of being able to see the fault in all things. It remains to be seen if he'll also be super strong and agile, however.
6. Isabelle Cornish As Crystal
22-year-old Australian actress, Isabelle Cornish (younger sister of Abbie) began her career in the likes of Home and Away and Puberty Blues, but despite narrowly missing out on major roles in Cinderella and Transformers: Age of Extinction, she has yet to make a splash in Hollywood. However, her casting as Crystal in The Inhumans should raise her profile considerably.
Crystal is Medusa's sister, and in the comics she has the incredibly powerful ability to psionically control the four classical elements: air, earth, fire, and water. It's been confirmed that these powers will carry over to the show, and these recent set pics reveal that her yellow costume and distinctive black hair stripe will, too.
Crystal is described as "impetuous and independent, but also deeply devoted to her family."
5. Eme Ikwuakor As Gorgon
One of the most popular members of The Inhumans' Royal Family, Gorgon, will be played by Colorado native, Eme Ikwuakor (Concussion, Colony, Extant), who at '6 3" should bring an imposing presence to Attilan's military leader.
Gorgon is also Black Bolt's cousin, and it sounds like his distinctive hoofed appearance and ability to "generate destructive seismic waves with a single stomp" are going to carry over from the source material.
This take on the Inhuman warrior is described as, "the yin to his cousin Karnak’s (Ken Leung) yang, Gorgon would rather fight than talk to solve his problems."
4. Mike Moh As Triton
33-year-old actor/martial artist Mike Moh will likely be best known for playing Ryu in Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, but he has also appeared in the likes of Empire and True Blood. Moh will be playing Karnak's brother, the aquatic Triton.
Moh is a 4th degree black belt in American Taekwondo, so we can probably expect Triton to see plenty of action.
Of all the Royal Family members, Triton was most physically altered by the Terrigen Mists, which left him with green skin, fins, and gills. It sounds like this incarnation of the character is going to share those qualities, too, as Marvel describes him as "calm under pressure and supremely athletic. His gift is his fish-like ability to live underwater."
3. Sonya Balmores As Auran
27-year-old Hawaiian actress/model Sonya Balmores will play a relatively minor character from the comics (at least initially), Auran. Balmores doesn't have a lot of acting experience, but did appear in Beyond the Break, and also played the villain in the 2011 film, Soul Surfer.
In the comics, Auran was gifted with Parabolic Hearing, which basically means that if she selected a word on Attilan, whenever that word was spoken on Earth she would be capable of hearing and knowing the location of where it was spoken. There's no indication of whether that power will carry over to the show, as the description simply states that Auran is "a capable and no-nonsense woman. She is fiercely loyal to the King of Attilan."
It'll also be interesting to see if they go with the character's huge ears.
2. Ellen Woglom As ???
The name of the character 29-year-old actress Ellen Woglom (Crash, Outlaw, Hated, April Showers) is playing on The Inhumans has been withheld, which, as you can imagine, has led to a lot of speculation. All we know is that she's a "smart, intense, and focused" woman, who works for a private aerospace company, and has a passion for all things space and lunar.
This obviously suggests that she'll be portraying a human, and will most likely act as the audience surrogate - however, the fact that her identity remains a mystery has given way to the theory that she might be playing an established character from the comics, possibly with connections to Marvel's other ABC show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
1. Lockjaw
And finally, there's Crystal's loyal teleporting pooch, Lockjaw. Obviously nobody has actually been cast in this role, as the gigantic bulldog will be brought to life via CGI - but out of all the characters that were officially announced as being part of The Inhumans show, Lockjaw was the one fans were arguably most pleased about.
However, taking into account that most of the special effects budget will most likely be spent bringing the hound to life, viewers probably shouldn't expect to see too much of him on the show!
