Throg made a blink and you'd miss it cameo appearance in the fifth episode of Loki, "Journey Into Mystery." However, writer and producer Eric Martin would later reveal that we were supposed to see a clash between the God of Mischief and Frog of Thunder in an earlier episode of the Disney+ series.
It was in Thor: Ragnarok we first learned Loki had transformed Thor into a frog, and composer Natalie Holt has now confirmed that the sequence was set to take place in the season premiere.
"That was a moment in Episode 1. When Mobius is showing [Loki] his life, there were more moments in there," she confirmed. "I think they just kind of cut it down to kind of give it a bit more focus. But there were a few extra moments in there, and that Frog of Thunder moment was one of them. I had actually written, I had done something with choir for it like it was this big, grand moment where Loki takes over the crown in Asgard, and then you see Thor as a frog."
So, it sounds like one of Loki's attempts to become King of Asgard involved transforming his brother into a frog, but based on what Martin has said, The Avengers villain would have then been humiliated after taking a beating from the transformed Asgardian.
Holt would go on to confirm that the scene from the trailers with Loki in the throne room was taken from this moment, and hinted that fans could see it somewhere down the line. "I don’t know if I should be talking about this! [Loki director Kate Herron] was hoping to release it as kind of, like, an extra scene at some point, but I don’t know. I don’t know where they are with that."
While it sounds like this was cut due to it taking away from the seriousness of Loki's exchange with Mobius in the TVA, the deleted scene is one we're now desperate to see. That shot of Throg was definitely appreciated, but this clash between the two would be a blast for fans of the comic books.
We'll be sure to share it - like Zemo's dance - if and when Marvel Studios decides to put it out there for the world to see. In the meantime, perhaps we need to get #ReleaseTheThrogCut trending?
