Once the credits rolled on Loki season 1, episode 6: For All Time. Always, fans were treated to a message that the God of Mischief would be returning for a second season.
But as the show's second season ended with Loki Laufeyson settling into his new role as the God of Stories, there was no such message confirming a third season.
Indeed, Loki head writer/showrunner Eric Martin confirmed to CinemaBlend that there are currently no plans for season 3.
"We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. Season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don't know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons," said Martin.
In a separate interview, Loki producer Kevin Wright added, "We certainly did not develop this season going, 'We have to tee up season 3,' in the way that we did with season 1, where there was a very specific, 'Hey, we’re coming back.' But I also think that where this show goes, there certainly can be many, many, many more stories told with Loki in the 'Loki' world, and in other worlds connected to Loki, the character."
Loki season 1 debuted in June 2021 and season 2 premiered on October 2023. If it takes two years to produce a new season, the earliest a third season could premiere would be 2025. It's thought that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2026) will setup the end of the time-travel/multiverse saga that began with Marvel Phase Four. We'll likely say goodbye for good to the multiverse concept in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
It's possible that Tom Hiddleston's time playing Loki has come to an end. As he settles into his role as the protector of the multiverse from outside of time, it stands to reason that he'll simply exist beyond the reach of the other heroes and villains of the MCU.
Loki Season 2 Official Synopsis: Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.
