Excitement levels for Loki are building, and as that June 9th premiere nears, we can expect to learn a lot more about the God of Mischief's first solo adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (shared via @princloki on Twitter), head writer Michael Waldron expressed his excitement for what he describes as "building a new corner of the MCU." Considering Loki will seemingly be travelling through the Marvel Multiverse at the behest of the Time Variance Authority, that's to be expected!
"Loki's a character that's always reckoning with his own identity, and the TVA, by virtue of what they do, is uniquely suited to hold up a mirror to Loki and make him really confront who he is and who he was supposed to be," the writer teases. "The TVA is just an entirely new world [with] a new cast of characters, and that's what felt most exciting about the show: building a new corner of the MCU."
This isn't the first time the subject of Loki's identity has been brought up, and we can't help but wonder if this is Waldron teasing plans for the villain to meet alternate versions of himself (like Lady Loki).
In the same interview, the head writer also revealed how he pitched his take on the Disney+ series to Marvel Studios.
"'What if this was the best show ever?' I think that was literally my pitch. My pitch for the show was kind of a big, crazy, fun-time adventure."
Loki definitely has all the makings of a show that could rival and surpass WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but with few official details revealed, we'll obviously have to wait and see.
