Ahsoka reached its end on Disney+ last night, but we don't have long to wait for more streaming content because there's a little over 24 hours to go before Loki's season 2 premiere.
It's unclear what the series will add to the wider Multiverse Saga, though it's already been strongly hinted that it's going to serve as a launching platform for the TVA to make its presence felt elsewhere in the MCU (such as Deadpool 3, for example).
Talking to ComicBook.com, Loki co-executive producer Kevin Wright was asked if the God of Mischief is a throughline for the Multiverse Saga and its ultimate destination in 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.
"He's become that and I remember [Michael] Waldron and I would talk a lot about in season one or just kind of acknowledge in season one, so much of the first two, three phases of Marvel storytelling do track back through Loki and the choices he made," Wright explains. "Even Thanos coming to Earth is a ramification of Loki not doing his job in Avengers."
"So all of that plays out and as we were developing this, we were kind of like, 'Oh, in a broad sense, it would be really cool if the coming phases also ran through Loki and his choices, but in a different, unexpected way.' It always, I mean those are kind of like broad discussions, but we always are focusing on just what we're doing and try not to get too bogged down by the bigger picture. If we tell our story really well, the rest of the MCU will embrace it."
When the site put it to Wright that Loki's redemption and the events of this series - which resulted in the Multiverse being reborn - will directly inform Secret Wars, he acknowledged, "Sylvie has a lot of responsibility in that, by the way, with what she's done with the Multiverse."
Even if Loki doesn't end with an obvious cliffhanger like Immortus showing up, then we'd at least like it to better explain why incursions are happening elsewhere. It would also be no bad thing to set the stage for Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius to help The Avengers stop the villain's Variants a few years from now.
We're sure that's coming, anyway, and it would be surprising if Marvel Studios doesn't use this second season as a means of better explaining where the Multiverse Saga is heading.
"A masterclass in imaginative storytelling, Loki season 2 is the MCU at its best," we said in our review, "and a riveting new chapter in the Multiverse Saga that’s mind-bending, monumental, and utterly marvellous. And as a bonus, Ke Huy Quan is a scene-stealing delight!"
Loki premieres on Disney+ tomorrow evening.
