There was a lot to digest after watching this Wednesday's episode of Loki, but it was the death of Mobius at the hands of Judge Renslayer that really stuck with us. Pruned from the Sacred Timeline, we're hoping there might be a way he managed to survive (the God of Mischief isn't in Hel yet), but nothing is certain in a series like this.
Talking to Marvel.com, Owen Wilson shared his reaction to the twist and spoke about the sense of betrayal that came with Mobius learning Renslayer had been keeping the truth from him.
"The relationship between Mobius and Renslayer, it's the way you might have with your boss. Or when you're back in school with the principal or someone in a position of authority and having to sort of try to charm them so you're able to pursue your projects," he explains. "That's the dynamic between Mobius and Renslayer. She sort of loses patience with Mobius and with another one of his schemes. But, I think, she also sort of enjoys that he's a little bit of a rascal."
As for Renslayer's decision to have Mobius pruned when he finally learns the truth about everyone in the TVA being Variants, Wilson pondered the wider ramifications of that moment for the TVA.
"The betrayal of Mobius by Renslayer is pretty shocking," the actor acknowledges. "And it's a little bit of a hall of mirrors within the whole series, that people aren't quite who they seem to be. In the same way that Loki, when he lands in this bizarre place called the TVA, Mobius will have sort of the same struggles. What is this organization? And is it something that is worthy of his devotion?"
There are only two episodes of Loki left, and Marvel Studios is keeping a tight lid on spoilers. In fact, they recently shared a poster that makes it clear you won't find any answers on the Sacred Timeline...
