Earlier today, Marvel released a statement about the recent death of actor Reg. E Cathey, known prominently for his roles in The Wire, House of Cards, and being basically the best thing about the Fantastic Four reboot. However, while many initially believed the statement was related to his role in that film, the statement itself actually came from Marvel Television, and reads as follows.
“Everyone at Marvel Television is deeply saddened by the loss of Reg E. Cathey. It was an honor to work with him and to know him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.”
The page itself is also tagged to Marvel's Luke Cage, which the first season did not feature Cathey (though it did feature fellow former House of Cards star Mahershala Ali). It seems this was Marvel's way of classily announcing that the actor will appear in the upcoming season, likely in the actor's final role, at least for television. Similarly, the first season of Luke Cage featured one of the final television appearance of Sharon Jones, who closed the end of the first season with a performance of 100 Days, 100 Nights.
