MS. MARVEL Concept Art Reveals A Very Different Take On Kamala Khan's Hard Light Powers

Ms. Marvel proved to be a bigger game-changer for the MCU than we could have ever imagined. By [SPOILER ALERT] revealing that Kamala Khan is a mutant, the stage has finally been set for the X-Men to make their presence felt in this shared world. A post-credits scene, meanwhile, saw the teenager swap places with Captain Marvel ahead of The Marvels' release next year.

Those were two of the biggest developments in the finale, and both have somewhat overshadowed how Ms. Marvel has now mastered her powers and figured out how to "Embiggen."

This has brought the teenager's abilities more in line with her comic book counterpart, though she still uses "hard light" powers rather than physically transforming her body in any way. Now, thanks to Marvel Studios concept artist Jackson Sze, we have some artwork showing how differently those mysterious Noor powers could have looked on screen.

Yellow instead of purple, these light constructs take inspiration from video games, and would have looked pretty cool in motion. Ultimately, Marvel Studios obviously went down a different route.

Karla Ortiz, who recently shared some alternate designs for Ms. Marvel's final costume, has also revealed her take on the Captain Marvel cosplay donned by Kamala at AvengerCon. It's always fun to see what might have been, and we'll be on the lookout for more concept art like this.

Marvel Studios has yet to announce plans for a Ms. Marvel season 2, though we find it hard to believe the hero won't return to Disney+ after The Marvels.

@McMurdo - Just because there's an added element to her power set doesn't mean embiggening isn't somehow not embiggening...

Changing her powers will never make sense.

@Twenty23Three - If you watch the show it makes perfect sense. It's part of the story and how the MCU version of her discovers herself.

@Tonic24k - there is nothing in the show that couldn’t have happened with her original power set, minus maybe the time travel scene.

@Twenty23Three - Your argument is that it will never make sense. It made perfect sense and will continue to make more sense as the story unravels. We already know she differs from the comics in that she's supposedly a mutant as she was intended to be in the comics. But this isn't the comics...so whatever happens in the MCU is original and in no way required to be a carbon copy of the comics.

@Tonic24k - oh so you’re one of those people. End of the day the power change was unnecessary and pointless, and the whole ‘she was going to be a mutant originally’ line is a cop out because the character that isn’t. I’ll never get this weird need some Of you people have to defend Marvels poor choices

@Twenty23Three - I have plenty of gripes with some of Marvel's choices. (Nick Fury's eye!) But this change DID make sense despite how you may feel about it. The story made sense. Even the CREATOR of this character backed that up.

But I suppose YOU'RE one of "those people". Can never seem to grasp the concept that these adaptations are not carbon copies of the comics; they're original stories. Different universe, different origins, different happenings... There's even precedent for this WITHIN comic books. Earth-616 (Primary Marvel Universe), Earth-1610 (Ultimate Universe), etc. MCU is a different universe. What do you not understand about this?

I like how they visually portrayed her powers in the show, using crystals of light.

The purple color for the Noor fits better with Kamala's costume so I get why it wasn't yellow.
