Marvel's NEW WARRIORS Reportedly Designed To Be A Defenders-Style TV Franchise; Who Could Be A Part Of It?

It seems that New Warriors might not be alone for long when it is released in 2018, as it sounds like there's fairly ambitious plans in store for the series.

As part of The Hollywood Reporter's article on the departure of the upcoming comedy show Marvel's New Warriors from the Freeform Netowrk, they had a few interesting pieces of information that some reports initially overlooked. Specifically, they reported that Marvel can only shop new shows to Disney-owned networks and services (which Marvel reported back to THR as being innacurate), which would rule out potential new ventures with Netflix outside of their current shows, as well as the news that Marvel wants a two-season order for whichever new home the show would land at. Of the small pieces buried later in the article however the most interesting was a report that it could be what THR referred to as "Marvel TV 2.0".

Specifically, it was that the show could have "the ability to feature multiple spinoffs similar to the company's Netflix arrangement", which would indicate that New Warriors could be used to backdoor-pilot other Marvel heroes into their own MCU series. This report is similar to statements that were made made by VP of Production for Freeform Karey Burke, back when the show was originally set to be released on the cable network:

"The characters they've chosen are all really singular and could each carry the show that they're on. They're bound together as a band of underdogs for as long as we choose with this show but it's conceptually tailor-made for spinoffs."

With a potential new multi-show franchise similar to the Defenders or the CW-Verse, it would be interesting to see where a potential franchising effort like this could go with a half-hour comedy. Would all the spinoffs be comedies? If the show lands on a network like ABC or Hulu, would other Marvel shows already on the network cross over or connect to this new plan? Would we see more teen heroes, like America Chavez or the Young Avengers, or direct spinoffs starring the shows main cast? Could we see Mr. Immortal leaving to form the Great Lakes Avengers? It seems we'll have to wait to see how the New Warriors turns out before we know for sure how this will play out.

“Marvel’s New Warriors” is about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world… Even if the world isn’t ready. Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once — except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

I doubt it would be Young Avengers. Billy and Tommy are teens in YA, and even if they are made to be 13, it would be quite a stretch for Wanda to have been pregnant and miscarried but for the kids to also have powers, all before Wanda herself got powers.

We've already got Runaways, may as well do Avengers Academy while we're at it.

@IKidYouNotMan - Yeah, and if the Disney's Big Hero 6 franchise ends and they'd ever decide to do a MCU Big Hero 6 show either on Netflix or Disney's new streaming service, it'd be much more faithful to the comics and the team would be played by real japanese actors since the Disney movie and show kind of ruined the characters.

So basically, New Warriors can't find a home. With a two season minimum demand, its no wonder. I wanted this series badly until I found out it's a half hr sitcom. That's not how I wanted to see Thrasher and Speedball. They should have done Great Lakes Avengers instead.

Have they even announced the team lineup? If not, I'm betting on them throwing in Ms Marvel so she can ahve a spinoff, just like SG. Maybe Sam Alexander too. I'd be happy to have those three there and with solo spinoffs

@gymbeau2000 - It was going to be Squirrel Girl, Speedball, Night Thrasher, Microbe, Debris, and Mr Immortal.
