Back in 2017, Marvel Television announced plans for a New Warriors TV show. The half-hour scripted superhero comedy was originally picked up straight to series at the Disney-owned Freeform network, but even though the pilot reportedly tested very well, the project was ultimately scrapped.
Now, showrunner Kevin Biegel has taken to Twitter to share some behind-the-scenes photos and footage from his defunct series, and they include our first proper look at star Milana Vayntrub in-costume as Squirrel Girl.
New Warriors would also have featured Derek Theler as Mister Immortal, Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Calum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe, and Kate Comer as Debrii (some of whom are pictured below). Plus, Biegel previously confirmed that Keith David's character would have become M.O.D.O.K. at some point if the show had been picked up.
Biegel also commented on the show's fate, suggesting that one Marvel TV exec, in particular, was solely responsible. We wonder who he could be referring to...
It's a shame we'll never get to see how New Warriors would have turned out, but there's always a chance the pilot will be released at a later date.
