With Hulu unveiling early looks at the first two episodes of their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with
Runaways, with many comparing the show to the CW series
Riverdale, as well as Runaways co-showrunners own
The OC and
Gossip Girl. Along with these new reactions there is a bit more detail into the series, the current state of the episodes as they were screened, and several new reactions have surfaced along with it, with nary a bad reaction in sight.
In addition, Comicbook.com actually posted a (comparatively) less vague review of the first two episodes: there the site detailed how there were changes to the source material, in particular changing the relationship between Molly and Gert (possibly related to Molly's parents being absent from the series, whereas in the comics they were also members of the Pride), as well as giving more focus to the parents, of which Victor Stein, Leslie Dean and Frank Dean are the particular standouts. It also mentions that the visual effects are not entirely finished in both episodes (elaborating on Twitter that some shots still have VFX notes written onscreen and others are temp shots), but seeing as the series visual effects are being done by FuseFX (per IMDB), who, among other notes, were responsible for the CGI appearance of Hive in the Season 3 finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, by the time of the show's November premiere everything should look more than fine.
So, it sounds like Hulu's entry into the MCU is a rousing success, which will please both old fans of the comic and entice viewers unfamiliar with the series into partaking into this teen-aimed Marvel affair. What do you think of some of the possible changes made to the show? How close do you think they will (or should) stick to the source material? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below!
