WHAT IF...? Season 2 Marvel Legends Action Figure Reveals Steve Rogers' New HYDRA Stomper Armor

When What If...?'s Captain Carter was returned to her own reality after teaming with her fellow Guardians of the Multiverse, she discovered Steve Rogers' HYDRA Stomper armour.

We assumed a reunion with her old flame was planned. However, a sizzle reel shown at last year's San Diego Comic-Con confirmed that, while Steve is indeed alive and inside the suit, the plan is for the animated series to put a new spin on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Black Widow in season 2.

The episode, expected to be titled "What if...Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?" will reveal that Steve ended up falling under HYDRA's control the same way his old pal, Bucky Barnes, did on Earth-616.

We don't know whether that means Steve is going to call himself the "Winter Soldier," but it's a role the hero is clearly going to fulfil on Earth-82111.

Now, a first look at his updated armour has been revealed (via Toonado.com) as part of a Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure. Given an overhaul for the 21st Century, he looks more like Iron Man's Iron Monger and should prove to be a formidable foe when he and Peggy inevitably come to blows.

With any luck, Steve will eventually regain his senses and these two will get their happily ever after! The clash should be an emotional one, though, and we're pleased to spend more time with the good Captain after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' surprisingly brief cameo.

Despite it once looking like What If...? season 2 would debut in 2023, 2024 now looks more likely (some online scoopers have gone so far as to suggest it might be pushed as far back as 2025). It's also been reported that the series will only run for a total of three seasons during the Multiverse Saga.

Check out the new HYDRA Stomper below.

Just an excuse to emasculate Steve Rogers and push their feminist agenda.

@Matchesz - does it emasculate Steve Rogers to be put into a mech suit and not into tights?

I'm gonna say their plan was for EOY, but the backlash from the vfx artists, and now the strike will ultimate delay this until 2025. I liked the first season, my only complaint is they're really tame. I really loved the What If comics as a kid, and sometimes they really went out of their way for something crazy and awesome. Give me more of that, like Cap never getting frozen

It seems like they are revisiting characters from the first season. This completely misses the point of doing “What If?” in the first place.

I don't understand why Hydra, if they got hold of the Stomper armor, would WANT Steve without the serum...? I get the military skills Bucky had and the chance to experiment with his arm, etc. But unless they plan on dramatically experimenting with bonding Steve to the armor, or some other experiment, why wouldn't they just put one of their own agents in the armor once they have it?
