Black Mirror is set to return for its highly anticipated fifth season this week. Ahead of its arrival on the streaming service, singer/songwriter/actress Miley Cyrus has opened up about the upcoming episode she is set to star in, "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too."

"I think it’s an important story that needs to be told, such a realistic take on what it’s like working in the music industry. It really portrays the overt exploitation of artists and that numbers usually eclipse the creative most of the time," Cyrus explained to The Guardian.

A recent teaser for the show portrayed Cyrus' character as a worldwide pop star "whose charmed existence isnt' quite as rosy as it appears."

As Cyrus explained in the interview, the world of pop portrayed in the upcoming Black Mirror episode is "eerily" familiar to the one she has experienced in real life. "You can see it playing out in the media right now," Cyrus said. "There’s huge similarities with what we see in pop music today."

Cyrus didn't get into the specifics of the episode, but it certainly sounds as though "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" will offer an intriguing, yet seedy glimpse into the world of pop entertainment. As always, the use of technology will play a large role in exploring the themes of the episode, which seem to revolve around self-esteem, fame, social media, and mental health.

"Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" is one of three episodes that comprise Black Mirror Season 5. Check out teasers for the remaining two here.

Black Mirror returns to Netflix on June 5.

Exploitation of artists is one thing, but let's not forget the most horrible crime against humanity that could ever be committed.

The snubbing of bloggers who write about entertainment.
