Netflix's Squid Game proved to be very popular (it's actually gone on to become the streamer's most successful show of all time), so it didn't exactly come as a major surprise when creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that a second season of the harrowing South Korean dystopic drama was in development.

Now, Netflix (via SFF Gazette) has made it official with a brief teaser promo and message from Dong-Hyuk which gives fans a (slightly) better idea of what to expect from the continuing story.

The video features sinister "red light, green light" doll Cheol-su, whose "boyfriend" will reportedly be introduced in season 2! It's also been confirmed that both Gi-hun and The Front Man will return (they were the only main characters to survive, after all).

The first season ended with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) emerging as the only survivor of the lethal games, which saw 456 contestants in various degrees of severe financial trouble put their lives on the line for the chance of winning a ₩45.6 billion (roughly €30m) prize.

In the final episode, Gi-hun decides not to travel to America to reunite with his family, and it's strongly implied that he intends to track down and punish those responsible for planning the games.

Although I thought the first season wasn't all that great, I am kinda intrigued to see where the story goes. Maybe Gi-Hun going full Punisher or Batman on the creators of the titular game could get me to watch it, but if it's just like the first season I'll skip it.

@bkmeijer1 - Lmao no offense, that sounds like shit. Not everything needs to be a superhero/vigilante show.

@Unconforming - no offense taken at all. I tried to keep it on topic because this is a comic book site, but I don't necessarily want it to be a superhero show.

Just a guy going out for revenge/vengeance/justice and just being absolutely brutal doing it is what I want. Maybe something like John Wick then.

@bkmeijer1 - Still, its a show about horror games, and shit. I dont doubt Gi hun will get revenge, but changing tone would be strange. Plus why would he turn into John Wick?

@Unconforming - maybe he goes on a boot camp?

Anyway, I think keep doing games is gonna get tiring. Keeping the brutal and twisted aspect of the show going forward less so. Doesn't even really require a tone change

@bkmeijer1 - Lmao what are you talking about? its called [frick]ing squidgame. Its centered around these games. Turning into another show is a dumb idea

@Unconforming - stuff like Maze Runner and Hunger Games did it too, and it only has to do one game of squid game to justify this show's title.

And what I'm talking about is what it would take to get me watching again.

@UnderBelly - not confirm, no. The showrunner said he wanted to do a season 2, but only if he could find a way to make it work.

I can't wait to see what children's game this makes super popular with my middle school students.

It was pretty funny seeing these 13 year Olds wanting to play red light green light, then pretending to get shot when they lose.
