We haven't really had many updates on this one since the show was announced as being in development by producer Robert Downey Jr. last year, but Netflix has now released the first trailer for DC Comics adaptation, Sweet Tooth.

Based on Jeff Lemire's comic of the same name, the story is set years after a mysterious event known as “The Great Crumble,” which results in the emergence of a race of human-animal hybrids. Sweet Tooth follows one such hybrid, an adorable little deer-boy named Gus, as he embarks on a perilous adventure with a fellow wandering loner named Jepperd.

“We wanted to make a show that offers escape and adventure, where nature is reclaiming the world and in many ways it feels like a fairytale," explains executive producer, writer, director, and co-showrunner Jim Mickle. "Sweet Tooth is a new kind of dystopian story, it’s very lush and hopeful. We want people to come into this world where there’s beauty and hope and adventure. This is a sweeping story — we ride on trains, climb mountaintops, run through forests. This is a show about what makes a family, what home really means, and why it’s important to keep faith in humanity.”

Check out the trailer below along with some promo stills, and let us know what you think.

Sweet Tooth stars Christian Convery (Gus), Nonso Anozie (Tommy Jepperd), Adeel Akhtar (Dr. Aditya Singh), Aliza Vellani (Rani Singh), Stefania LaVie Owen (Bear), Dania Ramirez (Aimee Eden), Neil Sandilands (General Abbot), with Will Forte (Father) and James Brolin (Narrator).

The eight-episode first season is set to hit Netflix on June 4.

Also, I feel like we haven't seen Will Forte in enough projects. This dude is amazing.

@Menks123 - Also never read the comic but it does look good, and agreed on Forte. I knew he was in it from beginning of the trailer, but as soon as I saw him later flexing the dramatic acting I knew I was in.

@Menks123 - The comic gets pretty dark and violent in places.

@duncboy -
Lemire's Animal Man was pretty damn great, especially alongside Scott Snyder's Swamp Thing.
I wonder if the Downeys are down with producing more DC content like Animal Man or even Fables.

@Battabing - yeah the Animal Man and Snyder's Swamp Thing series were probably the only good thing to come out of the New 52

It looks really interesting and weird. I enjoyed the comic, although it’s been years since I read it.

Looks interesting....
Quick question, why has this site been completely ignoring Amazon’s Invincible?
Very odd cause it’s a really good show.

@AnthonyVonGeek - No one knows.

Instead, we get a ton of articles and interviews that don't have anything to do with comics at all.

@Battabing

I hate Neill Blomkamp, but he would be the ideal choice for this.

Sadly, the rights are on the hands of the Kung Fu Panda director IIRC.
