The popular comic series Chew has officially had a TV show adaption picked up by Showtime. DEADLINE is reporting that show will consist of half hour long episodes.

Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer of Eureka fame have written the script for the pilot episode. A Chew TV series has been in a slow development stages for quite some time now. The success of the comic to TV series, The Walking Dead is believed to be the inspiration.

Here is a brief synopsis of the series from IGN:

Tony Chu is a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It's a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice. And if that wasn't bad enough, the government has figured out Tony Chu's secret. They have plans for him... whether he likes it or not. Presenting a twisted new series about cops, crooks, cooks, cannibals and clairvoyants, written by JOHN LAYMAN (Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness, House of M: Fantastic Four and PUFFED) with mind-blowing art by astonishing comics newcomer ROB GUILLORY.

Breasticles7, I gotta disagree.I find the majority of Showtime shows to be very well produced.

Shameless
Dexter
Weeds
Californication
United States of Tara
Episodes
Brotherhood
The Tudors
Dead Like Me

I think Showtime is a really good place for it.

If they want a young Chu they should go for John Cho (Star Trek) if they want a more mature actor they should really go for Ken Leung (Lost). I spose Cho might have slightly more comedy experience (Harold & Kumar, American Pie).

@Jonathan Smith
it seems like Ken Leung (Lost) is the first choice.

this is from Rob Guillory(illustrator of Chew) on Dec 2010
"We've been in touch with the actor who played Miles (Ken Leung). He's pretty much our first pick for Tony Chu. He didn't know we thought of him for the role. He found it, right before Lost wrapped, he said he was in Hawaii when his family was there, and he found it online and ran downstairs, and had no idea it was him. The TV show is in its early, early development. We have writers and a director attached. We've been in pretty regular contact with him and he knows we want him for the role."
