Thanks to The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano has quickly become one of the Star Wars Universe's most beloved characters (though that wasn't the case when she debuted). Star Wars Rebels expanded on the Jedi's story, and The Mandalorian set the stage for a live-action version of Ahsoka - played by Rosario Dawson - to continue hunting for Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger.
That story will be told in the Ahsoka series coming to Disney+, and Empire Online recently managed to get some fresh intel from Dave Filoni about the show's writing process.
"It’s thrilling, I gotta tell you," he admitted. "It’s something you imagine doing for a long time. And then it’s kind of startling when you’re sitting there, and now you have to do it." It sounds like getting to continue Ahsoka's journey in this setting has given Filoni the chance to expand a story that could have originally played out in an animated Star Wars Rebels sequel.
"I thought of this adventure for Ahsoka for a long time, and it’s interesting to see how it’s evolved," the writer, director, and executive producer teased. "Years ago, I never would have imagined that it was sprung from a branch of a tree that had anything to do with a guy [like] Din Djarin, or a child that looks like Yoda. It’s a great lesson for me on how, when you have other creatives like Jon Favreau, they can help lend such dimension and depth to what you’re doing."
We're not expecting to see Ahsoka in The Book of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian season 3, but this show is moving ahead with cameras likely to begin rolling early next year. Last week, it was revealed which actress will join Dawson in this series as Sabine Wren, and you can find more details on that here.
