New AHSOKA Theory Points To The Mysterious Marrok Being Unmasked As [SPOILER]

The most popular theory relating to mysterious masked Inquisitor Marrok in Ahsoka seems to be that he's a corrupted Ezra Bridger, but what of the Force-sensitive villain is actually [SPOILER]?

Despite only appearing in a couple of scenes and usually only in the background, arguably the most talked-about aspect of the first two episodes of Ahsoka is the mysterious Inquisitor known as Marrok.

The official character description at StarWars.com reads:

"Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds. Fully encased in battered battle armor, the warrior still carries a red double-bladed saber with a circular hilt."

We've seen a few faceless Inquisitors over the years, and Marrok may simply be another minor villain destined to be dispatched by Ahsoka Tano or one of her allies later in the season, but a lot of fans are convinced that he will ultimately be unmasked as a previously established character.

The most popular theory is that Marrok is Ezra Bridger, which wouldn't actually be too far-fetched. After all, the young Force-wielder disappeared with Grand Admiral Thrawn in the series finale of Star Wars Rebels, and we know Jedi can be corrupted under the right (or wrong) influence.

There's also the fact that the name Marrok derives from the Arthurian legend of Sir Marrok, a knight who was turned into a wolf by Morgan le Fay.

However, there is also speculation that he may turn out to be Galen Marek, AKA Starkiller, who was Darth Vader's secret apprentice in the now non-canon The Force Unleashed video games.

Starkiller was voiced by Sam Witwer, who is listed in the show's credits - although it's worth noting that the Battlestar Galactica alum has been involved in quite a few Star Wars projects in some capacity over the years!

This doesn't completely rule out the possibility, of course, but we'd say there is more of chance of Marrok being unveiled as Ezra. Will we find out during this week's third episode, perhaps?

What do you think? Be sure to share your theories in the comments.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

Lazy writing if it’s Ezra. Interesting if it’s Galen.

@WhatIfRickJames - While it would be cool, his power set would have to be seriously neutered or he's holding back considerably. That said, it's better than the LUUKE Skywalker rumor.

@The1st - why would Luke be an inquisitor? That's a rumor that shouldn't even count as a rumor. That's just moronic.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - another “who’s the parents of Rey” moment? I’ll take it. Lol
They’d have Filoni’s head if he let that happen.

Oh, shit, yeah, this would be lovely. Get Sam Witwer in the live-action mix as more than Maul's voice.

As soon as I saw a masked character like that I thought Ezra. But of course they already know many will make that comparison so maybe it's a Ralph Boehner moment.
StSteven
StSteven - 8/29/2023, 4:45 PM
@DarthOmega - Maybe it's literally Ralph Boehner. Like he unmasks and it's Evan Peters, who is like "Hey, wait a minute, this isn't Westview!". And then we find out that it was "Palpatine All Along". Hey, wait a minute...

Makes no sense to be Ezra. The whole plot is to find out where Ezra and Thrawn went. Ezra is with Thrawn in a different universe, so he suddenly found his way back and became an Inquisitor? I say it's either Barriss Offee or stretch being StarKiller. I think it being Barriss would be just as surprising to Ahsoka as if it were Ezra.
Vigor
Vigor - 8/29/2023, 12:43 PM
@darthderp - barriss would be great from a character arc standpoint for Ahsoka. But only clone wars audience will understand it. For the general audience it'll be a "ugh another force user I didn't see in the movies who is supposed to br important"
darthderp
darthderp - 8/29/2023, 12:47 PM
@Vigor - I somewhat agree, except for most of this series the general audiance probably never watched Rebels or Clone Wars. I have to have faith in Filoni that he wouldn't make it that easy by making it Ezra or StarKiller.

If it is Starkiller it would be very poetic that the two apprentices of Anakin Skywalker outlived their master and both his legacy fighting for the Light (Ahsoka) and the dark (Starkiller) live on and are destined to clash.
Vigor
Vigor - 8/29/2023, 12:44 PM
@SonOfAGif - if its Starkiller then they severely depowered him. Starkiller wouldn't be running from ahsoka
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 8/29/2023, 5:13 PM
@Vigor - Was he running though? He received an alert on his comms and left to complete his mission. Remember that Hera was in pursuit of the Imperial Ship and his mission was to defend and secure the payload. So him engaging with Ahsoka was more of a distraction than anything. At least that's how I viewed that battle even prior to the possibility of it being Star Killer.

I think it’s Barriss Offee. She’s a Filoni creation that had a huge storyline with Ahsoka in Clone Wars and we don’t know what actually happened to her.
Taonrey
Taonrey - 8/30/2023, 2:05 AM
@Dculrich923 - Barris was in the prequel trilogy, George made her, filoni added on to it
Dculrich923
Dculrich923 - 8/30/2023, 10:52 AM
@Taonrey - You’re right. I stand corrected. I still think it could be her, seeing as how she became disenfranchised with the Jedi, and becoming an inquisitor and the later a mercenary with Baylon does fit her. Just my opinion, hopefully whoever it is, it makes sense. No real need to go off the rails with it like Ezra or even Starkiller.
Taonrey
Taonrey - 8/30/2023, 11:07 AM
@Dculrich923 - I mean Marrok is a dude, morgan literally says that and it’s a male stunt double, so either she doesn’t know it’s a girl under the mask or Barriss got a sex change.

I doubt they would use Starkiller in this show like that. He would be the kind of character they’d put front and center of advertisements to get the gamer crowd hyped up.
