The fourth episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming on Disney+, and in addition to an old-school (ie, highly improbable!) Star Wars prison break, we see Ben make a shocking discovery with some nods to The Clone Wars animated series.

Echoing A New Hope, a now (almost) fully-healed Kenobi and Tala break into the Fortress Inquisitorius in the Mustafar system in an attempt to rescue Leia, who is being interrogated by Reva. While the former "Imp" manages to use her clearance to infiltrate the security system, Obi-Wan stumbles upon a sinister tomb where Jedi and force-sensitive beings appear to be held in some sort of stasis.

Fans of The Clone Wars will likely recognize Master Tera Sinube (and was that Master Coleman Kcaj?), but we can't imagine this was the type of call-back they were hoping for!

We have no idea why these characters are being kept "on ice," but they seem to be dead as doornails. Perhaps Vader and The Emperor can still somehow make use of the Midi-chlorians (is that still a thing?) in their blood for cloning purposes?

Ben is ultimately able to free Leia from her captors, and we're treated to some thrilling lightsaber action as he deflects blaster fire and uses the Force to hold a cracked window in place to prevent a corridor being submerged. Tala and Kenobi try to make it off the base with Leia hiding under the former's coat (really?), but they are confronted by Reva. The Third Sister is about to order their execution when "Rebel" pilots come to the rescue, and we're expected to care when one of them is killed even though he had literally three seconds of screen time (bye Wade).

The episode ends with Vader Force-choking Reva as he reminds her that he will not tolerate failure, but the cunning Inquisitor saves herself by revealing that she put a tracking device in Leia's droid, Lola!

I’ve enjoyed the series but this was easily the worst episode. Too familiar to New Hope but at the same time, poorly thought out with Obi-Wan outrunning the water (despite being right next to it) and then trying to smuggle out Leia under a coat was laughably funny.

A common complaint is now being repeated. Deborah Chow is kind of bad at setting environments to have her character react authentically in. It’s never been more egregious than this episode but last episode with Vader unable to stop Obi-Wan escaping (from a fire he JUST blew out…or could have walked around!) or Third Sister somehow reaching the end of a single tunnel before Leia are also pretty big examples.

@MrDandy - I don't think the ep was terrible but yeah, directing issues. I debated with some guys about Vader's not putting out that fire or getting around it in the last episode and some felt he let Obi Wan escape deliberately. Which after seeing ep 4, we now know wasn't the case. There is definitely something lacking, but thankfully it's not as mediocre as BoBF

@MrDandy - Yeah, agreed. I did enjoy all the lightsaber and force stuff, but you could tell how many times they got to a part in the script where it called for a bit of inventiveness and creativity and went, "ahh... just stick her under his coat." Or, "[frick] it... the pilots show up out of nowhere and save the day."

There's always an element of that in Star Wars, of course, but it was particularly jarring here.

3 episodes in a row and no Tatooine? I'd call it a win. It was still kind of bland in places though.

The villains are weak, though Reva had a good scene with young Leia.

Premiere episode of Kamala Khan > F*cking 4 episodes of Kenobi.

Hard to believe but this is our timeline.

@Doomsday8888 - I know, right? why is the freakin' Kamala Khan show so well done?! not complaining, it just took me by surprise. the live-action Spider-verse comparison wasn't just marketing, they actually went for it with the show.

Ep 1: Leia kidnap
Ep 2: Leia rescue
Ep 3: Leia kidnap
Ep 4: Leia rescue

Seems to be a bit short on ideas in this show. Terrible episode

@GhostDog - how could I forget such a vital component to this brilliantly thought-out and plotted series! Just thinking about all the stakes for the next 2 episodes, beginning with…beginning withhh…ummm

@generictheeric - yet Vader keeps giving her second chances, which he totally wouldn’t do. Fact she put the tracker on without him knowing totally undermines his power

@Cap1 - Exactly this…By the time Obi Wan gets word in ANH that Leia got kidnapped you’d fully expect a facepalm followed by an expletive…

Hell, Obi Wan probably dropped a few Leia getting kidnapped stories in Luke’s ear…Good chance that’s why he came up with the idea that Leia get “taken prisoner” by Jabba in RotJ…Figures she’d be perfect for that role since she has so much damn experience…

@Cap1 - yup. Not to mention that incident between her and the grand inquisitor led to obi wan getting away.

@Cap1 - LMAO yea its basically that but I think within the context of the story here (as opposed to how lazily it was used over and over in Boba) it would've worked had it been a memory shared by Vader and Obi and/or a Force-bond in a moment where they were both undergoing the same experience.

Yup, that fortress should've been able to detect any ship entering the area especially one that isn’t registered as imperial.

The writing in this episode was AWFUL.

1. Reva interrogates Leia to find the location of the Path but Leia had no idea it existed until maybe a day ago?

2. I know it's a Star Wars staple at this point, but Leia, Tala, and Obi were able to escape an IMPENETRABLE FORTRESS on active lockdown because nobody had the situational awareness to notice a LITTLE GIRL UNDER A COAT. They walk right by 2 inquisitors aka FORCE USERS

3. This was the perfect opportunity to do a flashback linking Vader and Kenobi with both in the bacta tank. It could’ve explained Kenobi getting intuned with the force again as he and Vader share a force connection of sorts. 4 episodes in and nothing like that happening yet is odd
