OBI-WAN KENOBI Movie Writer Reveals Scrapped Plans To Bring Back Fan-Favorite Clone Commander Cody

Writer Stuart Beattie, who wrote the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie script, has confirmed he had plans for Clone Commander Cody and comments on similarities between Reva and Jedi: Fallen Order's Second Sister...

It's become clear this week that the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie wouldn't have been all that different to the Disney+ TV series we ended up getting. There would have been some key moments or characters that weren't the same, though something both versions of this story have in common is how similar the Third Sister is to Jedi: Fallen Order's Second Sister.

Their story arcs play out almost identically, and as writer Stuart Beattie has already confirmed that his movie ended with Vader killing Reva, even their deaths were the same!

Asked about the similarities between both characters, Beattie told The Direct (via SFFGazette.com) that it was a coincidence rather than a deliberate nod to the video game. "I hadn't played Fallen Order. I wrote this initially in 2017, so that was before I played Fallen Order. I then played Fallen Order and was like, 'Oh, wow, this is Reva!' No, look, it's just a coincidence."

"I wanted to create a new character because I didn't want to be bound by any canon with any of the others that have already been discussed," he explains. "And I wanted the freedom to take her where I wanted to take her. So that's why I created her, for this story."

The writer would go on to add, "We're already using so many characters in established canon with Obi, Darth, Owen, Beru...so, I was looking to create someone new. I even had Cody in mind. You know, so I was looking to create someone new."

Cody is, of course, Clone Commander Cody. One of Obi-Wan's closest allies during The Clone Wars, he turned on the Jedi Master during Order 66 and later played a key role in enslaving the Wookie home planet, Kashyyyk. We still don't know how his story ended, leaving fans anxious to know what became of the hero-turned-villain played by Temuera Morrison.

This also explains a 2020 rumour that there were plans for Cody to appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it is a shame Lucasfilm decided against heading down that route. We did, however, get to see a veteran clone who had become homeless, reminding Ben of what happened a decade earlier when Chancellor Palpatine unveiled his master plan and had the clones turn on their Jedi allies.

Would you guys have liked to see Ben reunite with Cody in Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Yeah I don't believe they didn't play, or were aware of the plot of, fallen order. They ripped off the climax of that games story for their second rescue of Leia.

But even if that wasn't the case and this is all just a (massive) coincidence, why wouldn't you check the Canon events going on around the same time as your series?

@Origame - I got that sense too. Third Sister was almost an exact copy of Second Sister, the second rescue was similar to fallen order, and the final duel almost identical to Vader’s duel with Ahsoka in Rebels. Everything was sort of stolen from somewhere else, which is fine when you take from legends, but these were all canon.

I sometimes wonder how Lucasfilm hasn't perfected the process of making Star Wars shows and movies that meet fan expectations and then I read a sentence like "Fan-Favorite Clone Commander Cody" and suddenly things make a bit more sense

There's always a chance to see Cody on The Bad Batch

Would've been fun to see Cody, but I can see why they didn't go with him given the already large number of established characters present.

Also, I didn't think the Second and Third Sister were similar at all. Atleast not in their motivations
