OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Hayden Christensen On Potential DARTH VADER Spinoff And Not Reaching Out To George Lucas

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Hayden Christensen has shared his thoughts on potentially starring in a Darth Vader spinoff, while also revealing why he decided not to reach out to Star Wars creator George Lucas...

It's been nearly two decades since Hayden Christensen last played Anakin Skywalker, but he'll finally reprise the role in Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi. We expect to spend time with the villain both in and out of Darth Vader's suit, of course, as the series - which is set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith - will reveal exactly what he goes through as Emperor Palpatine's right hand.

Rumour has it the actor will also play the Sith Lord in Ahsoka, though the expectation is that he will either show up in flashbacks or as a Force Ghost.

It looks like the next few years will be an exciting time for fans of this iconic hero turned villain. There's already a lot of buzz online about a possible Darth Vader TV show or movie, and if the comic books have proven anything, it's that Lucasfilm can tell any number of stories revolving around the Sith Lord.

Whether the project comes to fruition remains to be seen (it's worth noting that this is barely even a rumour at this point), but Christensen is definitely interested. "Yeah, I mean, absolutely," he told Entertainment Tonight (via SFFGazette.com) when they asked if he'd be open to starring in a Darth Vader spinoff. "I think this is a character that resonates in our culture in a very kind of profound way, and there's certainly more there to explore."

After mentioning the other ways Vader's story has been told in recent years, like those comics, Christensen added: "I would love to get to continue my journey with him."

Of course, George Lucas handpicked Christensen to play Anakin, and Games Radar asked the actor if he's reached out to the filmmaker at all prior to shooting the Disney+ limited series. "I have not, no," the actor admitted. "I really felt like this was Deborah Chow's story, and I really just wanted to follow her lead on this one. I think what she's done here is just incredibly exciting."

However, that doesn't mean Christensen didn't do his research prior to suiting up again. "They did a lot with these characters in that show - Clone Wars and Rebels," he explains. "And it's just useful information to have. So I went back, and I watched all that stuff, I read some of the comics, and I just tried to immerse myself as much as I could."

"Just the idea that I get to play Darth Vader at this point in his life, it was just a really unique opportunity," the actor said of what brought him back to the role. "It really didn't take much convincing."

Lucasfilm has used Vader sparingly since bringing the franchise back to the big screen (and Disney+), but between Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans are more anxious than ever to spend a significant amount of time with this franchise's most iconic character.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres with its first two episodes on Disney+ tomorrow, May 27.

Today's episodes were good!

The Inquisitors were probably the only weak point for me. They didn't really feel intimidating and Sung Kangs voice was inconsistent. Reva wasn't as bad as i was expecting though.... she did alright, the only one of them with a story it seems.

Loved the opening on Order 66. I was kinda hoping we see Grogu, but I'm sure there'll be some other flash backs to book end the series.

Great to see Temuera back as a clone trooper. I wonder if that's pre Rebels Rex?

Looking forward to seeing Vader next Friday... and hopefully hearing James Earl Jones' sweet voice...though the chances are slim..

@UniqNo - yea The Inquisitors are kind of lame and (without spoiling) that other storyline for the you know who character that’s happening at the same time as Kenobi’s is kind of weak so far.

@UniqNo - 3 weak points in the first episode for me. The chase. . . Kidnappers letting the victim keep a droid... Shifting sands in a windy desert(they didn't want Ben to grab it with the force because of what happens in episode two but they should've thought of something)..

@GhostDog - I dunno, I kind of like that. I quite like the way the performer has portrayed that character.

@ElvenKingSlayer - well they weren't really the most intelligent bunch and that chase was pretty weak... they were prob suppose to come across a bit more comedic than they did... I don't think I got the part with the shift sands. Will give a re watch next week maybe.

@UniqNo - the actress is hit or miss for me so far but the vibe of that storyline feels like it’s from a different show.

@GhostDog - I see where your coming from... I think with that story it's trying to keep some of the aesthetic and look of the prequels and giving more screen time and insight into that planet... before...well we know what happens in Epiosde 4.

We're only 1/3 of the way through though...Still early days more hit that miss for me so far.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - I'd say start with Obi Wan. The spoilers will be all over the net by tonight. ST4 will take a little longer... saying that, I've just started on episode 1 after finishing the first 2 of Obi Wan. Lol.

So what's the over/under they announce it by the finale lol, I really enjoyed the first two episodes. Now go watch TG Maverick! This is what summer movies are supposed to be, and the perfect way to do a sequel after 30 years. Light on the member berries oh my it was glorious

I always used to get made fun of as a kid or called weird from 92-97 - watching the movies on the Sci-Fi channel (when it was called that!) or on VHS, because I was such a Star Wars nerd but my favorite character was Vader. I loved Luke of course, but there was something so interesting to me that this bad guy used to be a hero. I was big into Batman and Spidey and X-Men at that age too (thanks Fox kids!) but there was no other character to me like Vader; who was such a bad guy but he was apparently a hero before. Then in ROTJ hearing his name was Anakin and Obi-Wan talk about him was just so fascinating. Up to that point, I didn’t know it was “possible” for bad guys to have been heroes.

The first time I ever saw ROTJ I was convinced Luke was about to die and I bawled my eyes out; my mom had to comfort me saying, “It’s okay watch - his dad is going to save him” and I’ll never forget looking at her and going “but his dad is Darth Vader?” (mind you this is before the STUPID addition of the nooooooo while picking up the Emperor). The moment he saves Luke I asked my mom a million questions “why did he become good again?”. When she said because his dad loved him I asked her why didn’t my dad love me and we cried together. But from that moment on, I realized Vader was more than a “bad guy”. He became my favorite character; still to this day.

The prequels only amplified this for me. And to see Hayden’s passion for the character? Love it.

Please Disney - do NOT do a season 2 of this show. MAKE A VADER SHOW.

Vader spin-off could focus on the beginning of the Purge. Before hope fades, Master Windu rallies the Jedi survivors to strike back before the dust settles. This could be a great massacre and a great victory for the Empire. The end of the first uprising.

Vader Eternal -

The criminal space station of Nar‘Shadda, still independent from the empires grip, receives a distress call from a ship without fuel or food. In a rare occurrence of good will the mayor of Nar‘Shadda allows the ship to dock and offers the survivors food.
To their shock the survivors turn out to be a group of Jedi that managed to evade the Empire for the past 10 years since Order 66.
As the realization hits the inhabitants of the station all energy powers down and the usually brightly lit station falls into darkness. The group of Jedi and the mayors trusted circle attempt to make their way to the reactor only to find most of Nar‘Shaddas population slaughtered.
Unbeknownst to anyone a single tie fighter has also docked the station, owned by no other than Darth Vader himself. Hellbent to slaughter the Jedi himself Vader decimates the survivors from the shadows.

Base idea: a Friday the 13th esque horror movie with Vader in the role of the shadowy killer.

I'm sorry gang but Joby Harold isn't it. They shouldn't have scrapped the original scripts.

Decent start to Obi Wan but I’m disappointed with the Inquisitors. They’re more comedic then anything, specially Reva, her angry attitude was hilarious.
Hopefully they make her a more interesting character as the show goes on.

@AnthonyVonGeek - Jimmy Smits and Ewan McGregor are pretty good actors, but man they look like Daniel Day-Lewis compared to everyone else in this show.... Writing dialogue must be hard

So I'm at a bit of a loss here, and maybe you guys can help me out. I'm about to pop in OB1 and my oldest daughter is interested (because I've purported it as being all about Queens, Princesses, Knights, etc. (which it obviously is), but I can't for the life of me find a decent recounting of Ep. 1-3 on YouTube that I could show her so that she knows what's leading up to this series, aside from my narration. Thanks

@StSteven - BTW, I should add to that that I'm just looking for something in the 10-15 min range that a 6 year old can understand and pay attention to. Thanks
