STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Possibly Adds Legendary '90s Actor As The Show's Massive Budget Is Revealed

A new Star Wars: Skeleton Crew rumour suggests the Disney+ series will include a popular '90s sitcom actor in a key role, while the show's budget makes it the most expensive Star Wars TV show yet...

Lucasfilm officially announced Star Wars: Skeleton Crew during this year's Star Wars Celebration, and it's definitely one of the more intriguing shows heading to Disney+. The series will focus on a group of kids lost in the Galaxy who are looking for a way home, while Jude Law (Captain Marvel) is the show's first confirmed cast member.

We know that Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Christopher Ford (Spider-Man: Homecoming) are developing the project, and the budget has now been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com).

According to the trade, Skeleton Crew will be the most expensive Star Wars TV show produced for Disney+ with a budget of $136 million and $20 million of that coming from California tax credits. Like Andor, it's believed this series will be shot on location rather than relying primarily on The Volume, so we're assuming this could be what makes it that little bit more expensive.

The trade refers to these upcoming episodes as a "season one," but we're not going to take that as confirmation Skeleton Crew will be anything more than a one-and-done series.

In related news, rumour monger DeuxMoi claims a beloved actor from a popular '90s series is heading to a Galaxy Far, Far Away for an upcoming Star Wars series. Based on information shared on that page, Bespin Bulletin speculates that they're referring to Steve Urkel from Family Matters

Despite being best known for that series, he's also appeared in House, Atlanta, and Hustle

There's nothing concrete to suggest this is referring to Skeleton Crew, but that same source previously revealed Law's casting weeks before it was made official. Ahsoka is currently shooting as well, so that series is another possibility, but we'd bank on it being this story set shortly after the events of Return of The Jedi.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

No offense to Watts but I really don’t see why this dude keeps getting these massive projects. Maybe he’s the ultimate compromiser on these things, idk. He’s not a bad director by any means but I don’t see whatever Marvel and Lucasfilm see.

I’ll give him Homecoming. Underrated and I thought it was a solid Spidey flick that I appreciate because it was so small in scale.

Because sci-fi stories centered around kids are always a great idea. Ugg. And yes, it's been done successfully before, but I can think of more bad ones than good ones.

@NGFB - Hollywood still has these Amblin-obsessed, Goonies vibe, Spielberg acolytes like Abrams.

You mean Jaleel White. I doubt Steve Urkel will appear in Star Wars (unless he's playing Jar-Jar Binks' father / son). lol

A show about some random kids lost in the vast vast universe? So what? I’m guessing these kids are force sensitive or related to some rebels or .. idk

We already had Obiwan dealing with kids and Mando dealing with a very old kid, personally I don’t think we need more kid focused content. But they have to sell toys and merch bc everything is about making money and not necessarily about making good content that furthers the storylines.

Disney is notorious for milking its properties to death. So sad to watch it happen to SW.

I say lean into the more mature themes. I’m not implying anything crude, but focus on adult level game of thrones style complex characters (obviously excluding all the nudity). Disney needs to lean more into their adult audience and stop always playing to the younger kids.

After all they got an adult audience that were kids once and, damn it we’re adults now. Cater to us, we’re the ones with the money. Kids aren’t spending thousands to stay at a hotel, or hundreds for replica lightsabers.

Bla bla bla

Rant over

Please don't be Mario Lopez.

I imagine it actually won't a start from a 90's show but rather a secondary character.

Tatiana Ali?

How do they assign these budgets?? Pure random selections?? Why does an unknown property like this get a bigger budget than Kenobi which definitely could've used a little more.
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 7/21/2022, 2:21 PM
@Nightwing1015 - It’s not random. They have a story, they have script they are happy with, they calculate how much that script will cost to shoot, then do the math to see if they it will be a profitable investment, and if they need to pare it down a little they have discussions with that talent.

@TheUnworthyThor - on the face of it, it's an odd decision to have a lower budget Obi-Wan/Vader show than a brand new show. That's all I'm saying

I hope they then go to the craziest locations then, because there are so many environments we haven't yet seen in Star Wars

A budget of $136 million for most probably 30-40 minutes poorly written episodes filled of eye candy CGI to forget that the show sucks including 5-10minutes of recap and end-credits like Lucasfilm likes to do their shows..

I hope they hires better writers someday

Steve Urkel, not Jaleel White cause that’s his actual name, in a Disney Wars Series. LOL
