THE MANDALORIAN Actor Brendan Wayne Says Season 4 Isn't Happening For Now But Movie Begins Shooting Soon

It appears we won't be getting The Mandalorian season 4 before The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, but things are definitely looking good for Din Djarin and The Child's upcoming big screen debut. Check it out!

While Pedro Pascal lends his voice (and, on the odd occasion, his face) to Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, it's Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder who don the iconic armour on set.

Back in January, we learned that Lucasfilm has decided to move forward with The Mandalorian & Grogu, a big screen adventure for the beloved duo which is seemingly replacing The Mandalorian season 4. The news has excited and disappointed fans in equal measure, but hope remains that those episodes will eventually reach Disney+.

Wayne recently talked about his work as part of the Star Wars franchise and seemingly confirmed recent rumours about when cameras will begin rolling on The Mandalorian & Grogu.

"What I keep hearing everywhere is it’s [filming beginning in] June," he says in the video below (via SFFGazette.com). "I think Jon [Favreau] said June." Wayne said he "knows everything [that will happen in the movie]," adding, "they couldn’t have greenlit something without a script."

Despite being unable to share much beyond that, when the actor and stuntman was asked whether a fourth season of The Mandalorian will happen, he added, "No [Season 4]. I know that we’re doing a movie for sure, that’s what I know."

It's previously been reported that Favreau's scripts for season 4 evolved into a movie after last year's WGA strikes. However, as The Mandalorian is such a big draw on Disney+, new episodes could still follow somewhere down the line. Only time will tell.

Wayne was also quick to share his belief that this movie isn't being rushed out as some sort of cash grab. "I will tell you, honestly, like Jon [Favreau] would never do that. I understand production, like the studio, being like, 'Hey, you're doing a movie, not doing season 4?' If that's how it occurred. That's fair, because it's in their best interest."

"They make more money off a movie, it's not even close. It's not even close! But Jon loves and honors everything he does, but specifically Star Wars, because for him, it means something beyond this moment," he added. "He would never do something half-assed. It matters too much to him. And [Dave] Filoni would never let it happen."

Disney needs some guaranteed box office hits after a rough couple of years and The Mandalorian & Grogu is bound to succeed in that respect. Both characters are massively popular with hardcore and casual fans, and it will be interesting to see what sort of story this movie tells and whether it justifies the leap from streaming to theaters.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to be released in 2026, meaning there will be a three-year gap between season 3 and that big screen release.

@Cap1 - Ashoka was solid not great but solod....there are rumors Dave would have liked it to be a movie instead of a show.Disney shows have way too much crap fillers in them that are a waste of time and waste time...that's the biggest issue with Ahsoka for the most part.

Mando S3...the suits got too much of a say in that and a lot was changed.I don't blame John for that one.....now we see how he'll handle the movie.

I guess that makes sense since S3 did seem like a decent ending to the show if we don’t get any more seasons….

It’s a fresh slate now with Moff Gideon seemingly dealt with and the Darksaber back in Bo Katan’s hands so you could just have them show up on the big screen now (wouldn’t be surprised if the Filoni film wraps up Mando & Grogu’s story).

Anyway looking forward to the film , hope it’s an improvement over S3 (which was decent but the weakest one imo).

This is absolutely a cash grab. They botched Grogu by forcing him back into front and center after an epic ending in season 2 that brought the series back to our main character doing what he does.

@McMurdo - “They botched Grogu by forcing him back into front and center… “. But what about all those lunch boxes, backpacks, and Christmas ornaments? C’mon dude, Mando’s a great character and all, but you can’t ignore that “we love cute cuddly wuddly critters like Gizmo” part of the fandom. There’s money to be made damn it! Or as Master Yogurt said “Moichendising!” 😉

@StSteven - precisely. He was always marketable. But there was a semblance of story integrity in s1 and especially s2 with how his story concluded in that season. Then the suits said NOPE MORE.

@McMurdo - Well in all seriousness I suppose you can't blame Disney for wanting more of a popular character for all kinds of reasons and that's nothing new, but to your point there should have been a more compelling narrative reason for his story to continue than we got. Personally, if I were Mando I would have dropped the kid off at some kind of galactic day care so that he could get back to bounty hunting for a while. I mean, the guy's arm HAS to be getting tired carrying that little brat around all the time. Like, I love my little kids and all, but I work from home and would get NOTHING worthwhile done each day if I couldn't send them off somewhere for a good 6-8 hours a day. Probably why we didn't see Mando do a whole lot of hunting after he hooked up with Grogu. What's he doing for money these days? Plus he's got to take care of 2 "people" now. C'mon, Mando! Ship that little wallet leach off to Jedi Boarding School and get back to work!

@StSteven - just completely going back to default and reversing his becoming a Jedi was such a a terrible decision and screams studio interference

@McMurdo - Yeah, I can understand that they wouldn't want and/or couldn't afford to keep showing Hamill training him for a whole season (plus that could get REALLY boring after a while) but I don't really recall Grogu using developing his powers very often in Season 3, which either indicates that he did do much of either or I just drink too much and don't remember. Maybe both. 😉

Either way, well now they'll have a whole movie's worth of time and budget to (hopefully) better explore that, so it will be interesting to see what they do there. It would be cool if Luke did play a decent part in the movie at some point (plus they've got the tech to believably debate him for a whole movie). Also, it would make sense that in the time since Grogu decided to become the Yoda version of a teenage slacker and quit his training ("You're not my REAL dad!") Luke would have started training other new Jedi (who actually give a shit about the Force), which could ultimately tie into his Jedi Academy in "TFA". So maybe whatever happens in the movie is such a sizable threat that Mando has to bring the Mandolorians AND Luke's Jedi together to deal with it. That'll show that ungrateful little brat how it's done!
