STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Director Rian Johnson Has Spoken To Dave Filoni About Directing THE MANDALORIAN

Rian Johnson's take on the Star Wars franchise may have divided fans, but there was still a lot to love about The Last Jedi (especially from a visual perspective). Knives Out even earned the filmmaker an Oscar nomination for "Best Original Screenplay," and while he's going to be busy with that movie's two sequels for a while, it sounds like he's keen to helm an episode of The Mandalorian too.

USA Today reporter Sariah Wilson recently interviewed Johnson and confirmed that the director has expressed an interest in working on the Disney+ series (going so far as to discuss it with Dave Filoni).

"I asked Rian if he'd ever consider doing an episode of The Mandalorian," she revealed. "He said he was dying to, but that for him it's all about scheduling. He's been writing [Knives Out 2] and now he's going to go directly into filming it. So it would be a matter of finding time to break away and do it. He said he has spoken to Dave Filoni about it."

We probably shouldn't bank on Johnson returning to a Galaxy Far, Far Away for the foreseeable, whether it's The Mandalorian or his long-delayed trilogy of movies. The director is earning $100 million for his Knives Out sequels, so as you might expect, those will be a priority for the time being!

Let him direct all he wants. His direction is great. Just don’t let him have a hand in the story

@Mrcool210 - yeah. Even the people most against tlj shouldn't have too much of an issue with this since directing an episode of TV is much different than directing a movie. The showrunner really is the main creative force of a show. And it's not as if the complaints people have about tlj are based on how the story was told but WHAT was being told.

Most of the Mandalorian episodes have been straightforward. Will be interesting for one to have a twist or murder mystery.

@Drace90 - Oh, so now everyone who doesn’t like an artists work is toxic and angry? Too bad he’s a white, cis male or else you could traipse out “racist” and “misogynistic”.

Go back to your cave troll.

@emeraldtaurus - Gareth Edwards to direct an episode. The fans like that. Also, I want the giant monsters to return.

Oh boy if it happens people will lose their minds lmao. I’m down, I liked TLJ and even still I’d imagine the directors have very little control relative to Favreau and Filoni anyway
