The teaser trailer for Venom received an overwhelmingly negative response, especially as it didn't include a single scene featuring Eddie Brock suited up as the titular anti-hero. Instead, it looked like a generic action movie which might as well have been titled "Eddie Brock: The Movie." However, it appears as if the arrival of the symbiote (pictured above) changed things as trailer views were solid.
According to a new report, the Marvel Comics adaptation amassed over 64.3 million views in its first 24 hours online. It debuted at CinemaCon before being released and these numbers are particularly surprising considering the fact a low-res version leaked online hours beforehand. As of right now, the Venom trailer sits at 124.7 million views, a number which Sony is no doubt extremely happy with.
Interestingly, the second Venom trailer's views were up by 72% over the teaser and it actually managed to top the Wonder Woman trailer during that first day online (the DC Comics character had already appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and is far more iconic than Venom). "Positive conversation" about the movie was up by 46%, while "negative conversation" went down 63%.
