Speaking at the current Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Kevin Conroy – the voice actor of Batman from Batman: Arkham Asylum (as well as numerous Batman animated series cartoons) – has given some juicy details about Arkham Asylum 2, along with a guess at the game’s release date.

Conroy briefly mentioned the original Arkham Asylum, noting its recent BAFTA Game of the Year Award, before moving onto Arkham Asylum 2. An audience member at the panel asked about a possible release date for the title, to which Conroy replied:

“[We] just recorded the primary tracks two weeks ago. But now it goes to the artist. I know we’re doing a second batch of recording in August, so I think probably they are hoping to have it out by Christmas. That’s really (tight?), I don’t know, probably closer to Spring.”

Assuming that Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 will be building upon the same engine as the first Arkham Asylum, it certainly seems possible that it may see a Holiday 2010 release. As Conroy mentions, the four-month window from August to December is quite tight for a game to go from recording to release, but if the bulk of the dialogue has already been recorded, we can hope that the August recordings will consist solely of “Pow!”, “Ungh!”, and “What was that noise?”
To be quite honest, I don’t mind if Batman:Arkham Asylum 2 is released this year or not. The first Arkham Asylum was a fantastic game because Rocksteady Studios spent an awful lot of time refining the experience to be one of the greatest franchise game titles of all time.

Then again, if it’s ready for Christmas, let me have it!

Think there’s any chance we’ll see Arkham Asylum 2 this year? What are you hoping to see in the sequel?

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 does not yet have a scheduled release date, and will most likely be released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC systems.
