Speaking with Game Informer Magazine, comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis (who is also the current writer for the Marvel MMO) revealed that he wrote THQ's now-defunct video game tie-in for Marvel's The Avengers. He briefly discusses the game's point of view, saying it was from the POV of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America. Additionally, he confirmed that Hawkeye would've been a playable character as well.

"The one game that haunts me is that I was writing the Avengers game - the THQ game that got canceled," Bendis told the magazine. "I have a copy of it at the house, and it was a great looking game. It was a fully immersed Avengers game and the world will never see it."

"It was a point of view game, which was different than most super hero games, but you could play the game from the POV of Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, and you could play the game co-op with four of your friends, so you could build an Avengers team and unlock players."

The last we heard about a new Avengers video game tie-in was back in September, when the video game rights based on Marvel's Avengers IP reverted back to Marvel, and "The company is in early stages of exploring potential publishing and licensing opportunities". Do you want to see a video game tie-in for Marvel's The Avengers? Below is some pre-alpha gameplay from THQ's game.

Did't look great, the POV would have been good as an option, but the whole game would have been frustrating. An Avengers or JLA game could work really well with both online and Co-Op gameplay. Each character would have own styles and playing styles much like the PS2 versions of the respected franchises.

It wasn't dpne yet so it still had some work to do but other than that and Thor's costume being too Ultimates it was pretty awesome

Yeah....I didn't really care much for it. It was kind of cool with Iron Man but didn't really work as well with the other heroes.

Since its a tie-in, I wonder if the Skrulls were the villains in one of the original drafts of the Avengers' script.

I can't believe we haven't got another Marvel Ultimate Alliance game by now, this is such a HUGE event and no video game developer is capitalizing, how sad...

X-Men origins Wolverine was one of the best Cbm games ever. It would have been even better if it didn't have to follow the movies continuity.

Movie based games are just not good. They are given limited time for a decent script, production value is almost always rushed, graphics tend to look like sh!t. I'd personally prefer they took an arc from the comics than make a game based on a film. Just my 2 cents

This would've been so much fun

@Signofthetimez Most games will suffer from the "Get it out out in time for the movie release" issue, but this has been a film we've known about longer than most. They didn't even need to base it on the Movie just release a game at the same time, which if they had started the process when IM1 was released would have given them four years, which is a great amount of time.

I think they should stop dicking around, and have somebody put the game together. We know it won't be released until after the movie runs, but that doesn't matter, I own all the MCU video games, and they all are a tad underwhelming, except for Captain America: Super Soilder, marvel needs to find somebody to develop a game based on the film. It doesn't have to be the same story arc. Just give us the likenesses, and voices of the cast of the movie. I have no clue why they aren't on top of this kind of situation. Regardless, the game will make money, even if Sega releases it. Jesus, Marvel. Get with it.

Movie to video game adaptations are usually terrible anyway. I'm glad the project was cancelled

I'm still waiting on a sequel to The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, though.

Glad it didn't happen! I HATE pov GAMES! Couldn't imagine playing that way with a superhero game, and enjoying it in the least!

I hate First-Person-View video games. I'd rather see the Avengers in Third person, it makes it more dynamic, than just looking through the characters eyes.

I'm glad this was canceled, I hope they go the other route.

I'd rather see a 3rd ultimate alliance game than a movie tie in, tie in games tend to suck

I think if it were a fun hack and slash think darksiders it would have been cool. Throughout the game your one player and then as the game goes on you assemble captain America then Thor then hulk then you get to play as any avenger and upgrades like iron man suits and be able to customize the armors to your liking. You throw down with each avenger until you have the whole team then you fight Loki, skulls and so on, but I def think it would be better to have a third person game that you can change into first person

prefer 3rd person myself. ultimate alliance was an excellent game. i don't care for movie specific games because they all usually suck or at best rate average so i like that this was cancelled so time and money can be spent on something that can be better

If they would've made it third person, I think the game would've received much better reception; ergo, it wouldn't have been cancelled.

Make no mistake, I would've played it whether it was third person or first person.

@GambitFreak Hell Yeah! We need MUA3.

Marvel + Rockstar = Shut the [frick] up and accept the WIN!!! UA3 would be nice. Along with a new Wolvie game. I just thank God that the Origin game got the LJN nightmares out of my memories. He MUST take down the HULK this round... in the game...

I think a 3rd person game would rock, and depending on the character you'd choose, the mechanics could be different. Something like this:

- Captain - Same as his solo game (quite good, btw), just improving the "parkour" abilities, to be something closer to arkham asylum/city (best ever).

- Iron Man - Something like the Dark Void flying/shooting mechanics would rock.

- Hulk / Thor - God of War style. Obviously Hulk would be slower and Thor would have flying mechanics like IM.

- Hawkeye/Widow - a mix between the captain america styles (minus shield) plus shooting mechanics (a la Gears of War)

- Extra unlockable characters (Fury/Coulson/Maria Hill) - Gears of War style.

Good, isn't it? Now hire me, Activision.
