DC Universe Online - Monthly Subsciption Fee: Yay or Nay?!

WERE YOU EXCITED WHEN DCU Online CAME OUT ONLY TO HAVE THIS EXCITEMENT DESTROYED WHEN YOU LEARNED THERE WOULD BE A MONTHLY SUB FEE?

Howdy folks,

I wanted to write something about the recent release of DCU Online and my frustration over the monthly subscription fee that has also been tagged with it.

Firstly I was part of the masses that was really looking forward to this game arriving on our shevles (and mine) only to have this excitement dashed on sharp rocks when I learned that as well as paying £34.99 for the initial cost of the game I would also have to pay a monthly subscription fee to maintain my account.

After having previously played on City of Heroes on my PC the reality of having a game similar to this but set in the DC universe where I can react with superheroes from this world I thought was brilliant and to also have it on a console was even better as I am not an avid PC gamer.

My only frustration with City of Heroes was the monthly sub fee which I could not afford. I thought DCU online was the answer to my prayers, but alas it was not to be. (obviously the sub fee was for the upkeep of the servers and network required to run the game, I got that)

But as DCUO was on the PS3 which already has dedicated servers & network (albeit free ones) why are we being forced to pay this?!

The fact that this game is only on PS3 is a major annoyance as I am sure many of you are aware the PS network is no way near as smooth or efficiently run as the XBOX live community, therefore why should we pay a monthly sub fee for a game we have already paid for and a rubbish networking service that has many lag and crash issues. (I also understand that this game was developed by Sony by the way, so this is why its only on PS3)

Ok so rant over....this is just my personal opinion on the matter, nothing more. But I would like to open the floor up to your thoughts too...DCUO monthly sub fee - YAY or NAY?!

Thanks for reading.

sony should definetly dump it,with x-box live you pay for the year & all there games can be played online,if games got downloadable content its your choice if you get it or not.

what sony are doing is making you pay for a game & not giving you the option if you want to download editional content or not its one of the reason i haven't purchased it.

was i disappointed? not really. mostly because i know that 99.9% of MMO's have monthly fees.

@ marvel

its not a Sony thing. you can play all PS3 games for free online too, except this one. because its an MMO. like i already said, 99.9% of MMO's have monthly fees. again, its not a Sony vs. Xbox thing.

also marvel your arguement about having a choice to download content at your own leisure confuses me.. ive played the game -which is awesome- and to download stuff or not download would cause your character to be left behind in continuity and raids and the story line for example.

im employed and can pay this, ive turned off the internet option for my phone which saves me 30 bucks a month! some member here said to just dont go out to fast food restaurants twice a month and bam 15 bucks right there.. or stop going to see these dissapointing fox movies -burn-

so yay!

I cant understand why Sony don't start charging an annual fee like XBOX live...I'd gladly pay the annual fee on my PS3 if it meant Sony could put more money into developing their network and bringing it up to the standard of XBOX live!!

Also dont most MMO's have a monthly sub fee to pay for the upkeep of their networks and dedicated servers?

Well Sony network already has those and staff manning them so why are we being made to pay a monthly fee?

Doesnt make sense to me is all....
