Haven's End, an apocalyptic sci-fi film starring Catherine Taber (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Walking Dead: World Beyond), released last week. Since the actress often voices characters from Star Wars, Marvel, Walking Dead, and other universes, she was keen to speak exclusively with us here on Comic Book Movie about the new film.

During our chat with Catherine about leading a live-action cast in the new thriller, talk turned to her roles in multiple video games, such as Knights of the Old Republic and Final Fantasy XII. It turns out she initially wanted to play villains, but Penelo changed her view of roles and character arcs. She wound up loving portraying Penelo in FFXII so much that she even named her own dog, a Jack Russell-Terrier, after the character.

Listen to Taber speak exclusively with us using the podcast player below. We've included the transcript of the conversation about voicing Penelo in Final Fantasy XII and you can also hear her go into detail about playing Mission in Knights of the Old Republic in the audio clip below.

"Penelo was another character that touched my heart, and she stayed with me again. I like characters like Penelo, and I've played a lot of characters like Penelo. And in fact, in some ways, Padme could go that way in some people's eyes. Good characters can sometimes quickly fall into annoying, and everyone thinks, 'Oh yeah, the bad character, that's the cool one.' So originally, when I first started, I think like everyone else, I was probably like, 'I want to play the bad character because they're cool and they wear a black leather jacket.'

But I've since realized how important it is to have good and light in the world and storytelling. And I'm honored to get to play those characters. And so Penelo was one of those characters who could have easily just had pigtails, but she's not. And she meant a lot to me. And yeah, I was playing her when I was first fostering my dog, which is now my dog. She wasn't even my dog at the time. But then when she came back, and she was a foster fail, thankfully, and she has these, little Jack Russell ears and Penelo was the perfect name."

For those who enjoyed what she had to say about the role, we have also included another of our chats with actress Catherine Taber in which she discusses playing Padme in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Check it out below, along with the trailer and synopsis for Taber's recently released film, Haven's End, and as always, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual spot!

But I've been thinking: strangely, I can't remember a lot of memorable female antagonists in video games. Darth Traya in Kotor II is definitely one of the best antagonists ever created. More recently, Edelgard in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Abby in The Last of Us II or the Second Sister in Jedi: Fallen Order.

But most female roles in video games are either the main character (Lara Croft, Samus Aran, Ellie, Lightning) or close companions akin to best friend or love interest (characters like Penelo). I would love to see more badass female villainous characters in the future.
